Learning About Science Collection Level 3 (Print) – Review

During the summer we like to add fun studies to our homeschool, as things are much more laid back in summer. I was really excited to learn about Learning About Science Collection Level 3 (Print) by WriteBonnieRose. There were seven different topics that were included in this collection. Your child will learn about earth science, physical science, and life science in this collection.

Learning About Science Collection Level 3 (Print) comes with seven different topics: Kinds of Animals and How They Live, What’s Going On Inside Plants?, Life in the Oceans Hidden Zones, Forecasting and Understanding Weather, Discovering Rocks, Minerals, and Crystals, Exploring the Earths Landforms, and Energy and Its Many Forms. Each Unit has a Review and answer key. Your student can personalize the books as well by coloring the pictures and tracing the key words in print. There is a extra that comes with that give you extra resources for Creation Science as well as extra resources for the unit you are working on.

Each unit is set up the same way. You will find a reading and then a review. In the reading you will have pictures to color if you choose. It’s a great way to personalize your study. You will also trace key words. In ours we traced the print version of the word. You do have an answer key for the review. The topics are each different and they are well done!

How We Used This:

I used this with my son as he has trouble with writing and I thought that it would be a good fit. We started out with Discovering Rocks, Minerals, and Crystals. We took our time going through this book as I added in some videos for us to watch about the different types of rock. You start out with learning about the three types of rock: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Then you learn about different rocks, minerals, and crystals that may fall under one of the three types of rocks. We did have some of these rocks on hand that we could look up close. Once you finish the reading there is a Review of what you have learned.

What I liked about this particular unit was that there were pictures to color. So as we learned about the different types of rocks, minerals, and crystals my son could color those pictures similar to what they look like in the pictures and videos that we watched. It is a nice keep sake to look back on later. I also liked that he had to trace the key words. Those are words that stood out on things you needed to know. For a little extra writing practice I had him write about his favorite rock that he learned about.

Another thing I really liked was the review. The review wasn’t difficult at all. It was based off what was previously read. If you didn’t know it was easy to go back into the reading to find the answer. My son has issues with comprehension sometimes and this worked very well with him. If he wasn’t sure he was able to easily find the answer. I liked that he had options and had to circle the correct answer. Now he didn’t color the answers like he did in the reading. That is totally optional. Although it would have pretty neat looking to color the correct answer too! That’s just my opinion. It doesn’t matter either way if you circle or color.

I am very much looking forward to the next unit of Forecasting and Understanding Weather. My son pretty much knows what the weather is, but I am more excited about teaching him some of the tools that forecasters use to measure the weather. I am also excited to get into extreme weather as well. I do plan to add in some hands on activities to this, as well as watching some videos, and a couple field trips. The field trip would be the meteorologist from one of the TV stations and a trip to the National Weather Service.

One thing we have to finish up from what we were working on previously was our Ocean theme. So Life in the Ocean will tie into our studies nicely. It talks about the different zones in the oceans as well as the life that lives in that zone. So you will be learning about the five zones in the ocean: sunlight, twilight, midnight, abyssal, and trenches. I think his favorite of course will be the sea life!

My overall thought was that these units were engaging! I loved that you could personalize it! The reviews weren’t overly hard at all! I loved the fact that I could build off these units and add in some extras to extend our learning! I did also appreciate the extra resource links that were provided in another download.
