Week In Our Homeschool – Ups and Downs

This week has had some ups and downs! We have had good news and well not so good news. For me this week was hectic trying to find out how to get answers on things that keep reoccurring. I am thankful for a wonderful oncologist who gave me the name of a specialist to see. I am thankful for my family doctors who support my decisions and second the specialist appointment. I had an ultra sound testing on Friday and that didn’t go the way I wanted it to go. Then again do things ever go the way we want them to. I was very frustrated when I got home. My family Doctor called and we spent some time going over things and her suggesting things. So we shall see what this so called specialist says on the 6th of March.

My son also had a weird moment. His hand just started swelling for no reason. There was an area of his hand that was purple. He was also complaining he couldn’t move it and it was numb. I tried to ask if he had any seizure episodes and he says no. Honestly I don’t know, because there are many times that he doesn’t even realize they happen. So I called the doctor to make an appointment. It was an hour and half later and the swelling started to go down. The doctor thought it was really odd. She did see the swelling. She thought it might be a pinched nerve of some sort. She said we could have the neurologist do an EMG and I was like uhhh no…don’t really want to put him through that. The circulation in that part of the hand wasn’t coming back as it should but it wasn’t bad and it wasn’t good. She thought by the end of the night it would be better. She also suggested that we could do some blood work to check for a couple things. Well his hand is still numb, so I am probably going to have to make him an appointment. We have an ice storm coming Monday – Tuesday so I probably won’t be able to take him until at least Thursday. Wednesday is our roller skating with the homeschoolers. He started to get a runny nose and his ear is plugged. He said to me, I am mad at you. You take me to the doctor and now I am sick. Ooops!!

I didn’t really make any changes this week. We had some really good days of school and then we had some not so good days where we didn’t get much done because of appointments and phone calls.

Wednesday was my 17th Wedding Anniversary. We didn’t really do anything special. We just spent time with the kids like any other day. I did something Special since it was Valentine’s Day. My daughter and I made a cheese cake. I tried to incorporate different Valentine Day themes into our day. We did a math quest about the Heartless Queen. We listened to a wonderful audio drama on St. Valentine. Then my daughter did a couple stem activities. She was to build a tower out of candy hearts. Her one tower was rocking it as she had almost all the candy hearts used up but it fell before I could take a picture. She did make four others. The point was to estimate how many hearts you think you used and measure just how tall it was. Her other project was some marshmallow engineering. Her task was to use toothpicks and marshmallows to make a Heart. I didn’t guide her in her thinking and she did it all on her own. I thought she did a fantastic job.

Yesterday I went to the Fire and Ice Festival to look at the snow and ice sculptures. One of my friends entered the competition and she won first place. There were so many of them and they were creative. It was really hard to pick a favorite but I have to say the polar bear was my favorite! Yes I LOVE polar bears!

Today my daughter went to archery. She did great for the most part. She was one point higher then last week and she two more Xs then last week. She also was excited because she popped the balloon. All the kids really get excited because it gives them a chance to win a candy bar. Next week is the last week. This week and next she is on a team shooting. So we shall see how well they do.
