Fall is my favorite time of the year. The leaves are past their peak of changing colors and almost are half way fallen off the trees now. Yesterday we stopped at one of my favorite parts and I gathered different fall colored leaves that I don’t see to much here. I decided to use those leaves to make some fall lanterns. I haven’t really had the chance to enjoy fall. I feel like I have been robbed of some of the things that I really enjoy, such as apple picking, fall drives, and pumpkin patches. With all the crazy stuff that has happened since September, things are finally slowly becoming normal again. I am able to sit back and start enjoying some of the things again. I am also really enjoying crafting again. I have a lot of ideas of things I want to start making for gifts this year and some new decorations. I will explain how I made both the Turkey Lantern and the Fall Leaf Lantern.

Turkey Lantern

What You Need: 

• Mason Jar
• LED Light or Tea Light Candle
• White Tissue Paper
• Modge Podge
• Leaf
• Read Tissue Paper
• Orange Paper
• Google Eyes
• Paint Brush

Directions:

What I did first was tear white Tissue Paper and paste Modge Podge on to the mason jar. I stuck the tissue paper on top of the Modge Podge. If I needed to add more Modge Podge to hold the paper down I added it. The nice thing about Modge Podge is it is a sealer and a glue. The next thing I did was put Modge Podge on the back of the leaf and put that on top of the tissue paper. I had a little trouble with my leaf sticking so I took some more white tissue paper and put it on top of the leaf and I put Modge Podge on to make it seal and stick. Once I had the leave positioned where I wanted it, I cut out two round circles of red tissue paper. I made one a little bigger for the body and one for the head and I put them together and glued them down with Modge Podge. Then I cut out a beak out of orange paper and put the beak and google eyes on. Once dried I added in my battery powered LED light to see it glow. I don’t think this turned out so bad. I should have mentioned that the leaf was being used as feathers. So you can now get an idea as to how to position your head and body with the leaf. You can faintly see the red body in the picture.

Leaf Lantern

What You Need:

• mason jar
• Modge Podge
• White Tissue Paper
• Yellow Tissue Paper
• Leafs
• Red and Orange Paper (optional)
• Leaf and Apple Punch (optional)
• Paint Brush

Directions: 

This is made similar to the turkey lantern. I knew I would have a hard time making my leaves stick. My original intention was to have the lantern made off all leaves. It didn’t allow me to work it out the way I wanted to. So I started to use the Modge Podge on top of yellow tissue paper all around the mason jar for my bottom layer. I took the leaves and put the white tissue paper on top to make it stick with the Modge Podge. I only used four leaves around the mason jar. I had some extra space so I used my apple and leaf punch to punch out some leaves and apples and I glued them on with Modge Podge. I am not sure I am crazy about the punches I used. I then put the battery powered tea light into the jar to make it glow.

Not really crazy about my Leaf Lantern as it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it. So now I am on to Winter Lanterns….stay tuned for those as I think I will do a how to video on them. It might be easier for a visual. I can’t believe I am in a lantern crazy but they do make cute decorations when done the right way. I LOVE my turkey lantern.
