Can Psychedelic Mushrooms Treat Depression?

Are you suffering with Depression and looking for a cure? Do you feel like you have tried everything? If so, there may be a new treatment coming available soon.

Doctors and therapists are looking for new ways to Treat Depression, and research has gone in some interesting directions. New research is exploring whether psychedelic Mushrooms can be used to treat depression and other psychiatric disorders.

According to research from John's Hopkins university, a combination of using psychedelic mushrooms and therapy can relieve depression for up to a year, possibly longer.

According to the National Institute of Health,

Some types of psychedelic drugs, such as psilocybin and MDMA (ecstasy), have shown promise as therapies for treatment-resistant depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. They appear to work by encouraging the growth of new connections between neurons in the brain.

Although there have been promising results so far, more research is still needed before the use of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) will be approved for medical use. Researchers hypothesize that as more studies are undertaken, they may be able to synthesize a form of mushrooms without the hallucinogenic properties.

Though mushrooms are still illegal in most places, a couple of states in the US have now decriminalized their use. Currently, Colorado and Oregon have passed laws to decriminalize the use or mushrooms.

According to ,,Womble Bond Dickinson,

Lawmakers in numerous states have introduced psychedelics reform legislation during the current legislative sessions in their states. Legislation was recently passed in Washington and many states still have legislation pending that would legalize psilocybin in some capacity, including California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.

In addition to states considering legalization, there are other states that are undertaking medical research like:

  • Texas
  • Maryland
  • Arizona
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada

As the research progresses, hopefully it will become clear how the chemicals in mushrooms are able to assist with depression. This research can provide hope to many people who are currently suffering from depression or suicidal thoughts.

This type of research is promising for anyone who is currently suffering from depression. Since there still isn't a cure for depression, new research studies are important to advance the cause of creating a cure for depression for those of us who are still struggling.

Just remember, before you try to use any kind of alternative therapy for depression, you should always consult with your medical professional. You should also consult the law for your state or locality before taking mushrooms or any alternative therapy.
