Banana Idli – A Simple Recipe For Babies, and Kids

Banana Idli is a healthy snack/breakfast option for kids. It is made with Idli batter and plantain bananas. Steamed idlis are a very nutritious and healthy food; combined with the plantain banana, they are more healthy and tasty. These Idli are sweeter in taste which kids usually love. 

Preparation and Cooking time: 20 minutes.

Nutritional Value of Banana Idli:

  1. Carbohydrate – 16.2gms
  2. Protein –1.3gms
  3. Total Fat – 1.6gms
  4. Energy – 93.4kcal
  5. Fiber – 2.0gms

Required Ingredients:

  1. Fermented Idli batter: 2 cups for 5 idlis.
  2. Plantain banana: 1 unripe ( It should be on the verge of ripening stage)
  3. Grated coconut (Optional) – 1/4th cup.
  4. Oil- to apply in the mold.
  5. Water- To steam the idlis.
  6. For tempering- A few cashews are tempered in the ghee.

Cooking instructions:

  • Add 2 spoons of ghee in a tempering ladle and roast the cashews until they turn golden brown.
  • Now take the banana and slice them into small cubes.
  • In the Idli pan, pour the water and close the lid until it boils.
  • Grease the Idli molds with oil, and fill them partially with the banana slices and the ghee-roasted cashews. 
  • Now fill the molds with idli batter and close the lid.
  • Let the idlis cook for about 10 to 12 minutes.
  • The bananas need about 10 minutes of cooking time. 
  • Now after checking the Idli, remove them from the idli pan.
  • Let the vessel be cooled down for a minute or two; now remove the idlis using a spoon and serve them.
  • Optional- If you want to add grated coconut, you can add them to the batter. They give a sweet taste to the idlis. 

Note: These idlis do not require any side dish for them. But ghee can be added as a side dish if needed.
