Hamster Hour

Hamster hour.  It’s the time of day when all of that bottled up energy explodes out of our two dogs’ tiny bodies like a 2-liter Coke bottle dropped from a 3-story building.  Ellie’s HOURS of sleeping and “conserving energy” has led up to THIS MOMENT of the day.  Just like a video game character that hides in a corner until they regain full health points, her little chihuahua body slowly powers up in the sunlight throughout the day until it reaches max capacity. Herky the rat terrier, on the other hand, mimics the video game character that prepares for game time by darting back and forth aimlessly, jumping up and down, collecting mushrooms and stars.

Hamster hour usually commences around “I have no freaking clue”  (doggie time) but it’s usually dark and the zoomiez will begin at the drop of a hat after the pups share a double top secret look.

They bound around the house at turbo speed, their bums never quite catching up to their feet.  After some quick googling, I discovered the technical term for “zoomiez” (which sounds technical enough for me) is FRAPs or Frenetic Random Activity Periods.

Ain’t no party like a dog zoom party, ‘Cause a dog zoom party don’t stop

As you can imagine, hamster hour has gotten exponentially funnier since we moved into a house with 76% wood floors. The carpet in our porch and bedroom act as the “safe areas” which allow for a sufficient running start or turnaround spot.

But the ice rink between the bedroom and the porch, allows for the ultimate hardcore parkour POWER-PLAY experience.  Eight little paws independently slide around like hockey pucks, bouncing off furniture when it gets in the way.  Anywhere from 4 minutes to 20 days later (doggie time), hamster hour is over.

Ellie goes back to her throne for a nap to start the reboot process and Herky takes this time to clean his feet.  I get it… the floors are dirty.

All precautions are taken during the zoomz process to ensure the safety of the canines.
