Our spring Puppies are starting to be born. Our Ice has a litter of 9 new husky puppies. She has 7 girls and 2 boys. All the puppies are doing great, and mom is taking good care of the puppies. She was restless last night, and we kelp watch on her in the whelping building with our cameras. I knew she would start having her husky puppies within the next 24 hours. She actually started this morning at 7 am. She had her first girl which was a diluted black and white. She finished up just a little before lunch. The time frame was perfect. She only took about 4 1/2 hours to have 9 puppies. This is an ideal amount of time. We give our mommas quick absorbing calcium while they are in labor to help with her delivery. This makes her have strong contractions and just makes the whole process much easier for her. They have since had their navels swabbed with iodine and has been moved to one of our indoor climate-controlled puppy nurseries. The iodine is to prevent any infections in the navel.
We put a lot of time and effort into our dogs to produce the best quality puppies we can get. They start on Royal Canin puppy food in the second half of their pregnancy. This gives them much need protein and a higher fat content. We also start them on prenatal vitamins to help develop the best quality puppies possible. The food and vitamins are anything but cheap. Yes, we could skip a lot of things and just cut corners and sell cheap puppies as a lot of backyard breeders do, but our goal is to produce quality husky puppies and do our part to help improve the breed as a whole. There are enough of poor-quality breed dogs in this world already.
The dame and sire from this litter of puppies are genetic health tested and cleared of over 250 genetic diseases that could be passed on to their offspring.
