Top restaurants in York this Spring

I love to eat out with family and friends. It is definitely one of my favourite pastimes. I feel more alive as the season changes and we have warmer weather and blue skies. Now that I am back in God’s own county of Yorkshire where I grew up, I am loving revisiting favourite towns and cities. I have decided to arrange to meet 5 people from my younger years now that I am back in the UK. We have a lot to catch up on so I am checking out top restaurants in York this Spring. York is so beautiful with heaps of history to explore and great shopping too. I think myself and my old friends are in for a fun time. Betty’s You simply cannot visit York without a trip to Betty’s. The history of this amazing foodie temple goes back to 1919 when the business was established by a Swiss man. Everyone I know has heard about the luxurious afternoon tea available at Betty’s. However, the restaurant and tearooms offer so many delights. I recently dined there with my best friend from school when we both enjoyed their Swiss Breakfast Rösti made with grated potato, gruyère cheese and cream. This was served with dry-cured bacon, tomato, field mushroom and a poached egg. You simply cannot miss Betty’s off the list of top restaurants in York. The Ivy I was once invited to The Ivy in London and turned down the opportunity. They say in life you only regret the things you don’t do. I live my life differently these days saying yes more than I say no. I find it leads to a more fun-filled life. I was delighted to discover The Ivy has an outpost in York. They have a very affordable set menu of 3 courses for just £22.95. Although they have some more exotic offerings, I think I might treat myself and someone special to the onion soup, steak and thick cut chips followed by chocolate mousse. To be honest, I was surprised at the low prices for the quality food in luxurious surroundings. Estabulo I have often tried food from different countries including eating out in Dubai. One cuisine that is missing is Brazilian so I am going to try Estabulo shortly. I would like to take a former colleague there as he is quite the foodie. Although fish and vegetarian options are available, this top restaurant in York is one for the meat lover. I adore the idea of tender and seasoned lamb delivered to my table. I have not seen my old friend for about 20 years so methinks we will indulge in a cocktail or two too. Estabulo is great for date nights or for group dining. The Orchid Vegan Restaurant A vegan meal with one of the women who helped me get out of a tricky situation is long overdue. This restaurant’s menu proves once and for all that vegan food is anything but boring. You really don’t need meat or animal products to eat well. I fancy the Tom Kha soup followed  by sweet and sour vegan king prawn. I challenge anyone to not find the dessert menu mouth-watering. I think this is a great excuse to visit more than once! The Star Inn I have wanted to dine here for some time. Located in the old Engine House on the edge of York’s Museum Gardens, close to the historic Lendal Bridge and Tower, The Star Inn The City has an enviable riverside position complete with a terrace. I fancy taking the family here for Sunday lunch. There are the choices you would expect but my plan is to have seared sea scallops followed by the Yorkshire game burger. Puddings are scrumptious and indulgent. This is another place that clearly needs more than one visit. As I have mentioned, it is always a pleasure to visit York for its very many delights. What would you include on the list of top restaurants in York?
