Did you know that baby fever is a real thing? I had my last baby almost six years ago, and I still get phantom feelings of needing to nurse him. And each time that happens, I am reminded that my baby making days are behind me. Thankfully though, so many women in my life are having babies every day, or so it seems. So when that fever hits, all I have to do is find a crafty inspiration and get to work. This baby Dream Catcher is the most adorable little thing!

My sister in law is having her first girl after 2 boys, With the boys, she was unable to have a baby nursery. This time around, she has one. And I have the baby fever. Win Win right? After looking at her list, I knew the Dream catcher was right up my alley.

Did you know that a dream catcher is believed to have the power to catch all of a person’s dreams, trapping the bad ones, and letting only the good dreams pass through the dream catcher? My newest niece for sure needs one. I will provide the brief instructions on how to make your very own dream catcher.

Supplies:

Embroidery hoop

Lace doily or something similar

embroidery floss in various colors like these prime ones

fine copper wire

various sized beads

embellishments such as flowers feathers or other objects

Elmers Glue Spray
hot glue and glue stick

ribbon

bamboo or other light weight stick

The very first thing I ALWAYS do is gather all of my materials and do a rough draft. I like to get a general idea of what it will look like and spend a bit of time doing this that way I know which step comes next. I also take photos if my project is rather large.

The Start To A Beautiful Dream Catcher

After assembling my rough draft, I started weaving my dream catcher with the embroidery floss, first around the hoop, then between each loop. My pictures below are much better at showing you what to do. But if you need help, here’s also a great youtube video on how to do it!

Next, I took my lace and cut it to a few sizes smaller, (it’s not perfect, and I actually prefer that it not be) and sewed it in with the same floss I was using to create the woven part.

Moving on, we start wrapping the stick. But first, a few tips to help you with that task:

• Starting at the bottom part of the branch (the thickest part) and working your way to the end will give you greater control

• Don’t worry about wrapping each branch. Several from this chunk of bamboo were wrapped in as the main stalk, making it sturdier.

• Remember to using a bit of the Elmers glue at the start and stop of each color for better control of that.

• Take your time. This method is beautiful when you take your time and be patient.

This part of the dream catcher took the longest, but it is my favorite part of the entire project. It’s time to attach the branch to your hoop and finish up your dream catcher.

The Finishing Touches

We are going to cover that ugly orange hoop with ribbon. For this project, I choose 1/8 inch single faced satin in pastel colors. I started at the place on the hoop where the branch was going to connect and sprayed both with more Elmer’s and wrapped tightly. Where the branch naturally separated from the hoop, I continued with wrapping the hoop.

After it was all finished, it was time to put the finishing touches on this beautiful dream catcher. I found beads that I love on Amazon. After deciding how long I wanted each strand to be, I twisted some of the copper wire to look like spirals and beaded them up. After playing with them for what seemed like EVER I finally decided on the right look and wrapped the wire to the branch.

Now The Last Thing and This Dream Catcher Is Complete!

The last thing this dream catcher needed was a center. I sewed it on to be sure that it was secure. Now you are finished.

Here’s a few more tips to make sure that your dream catcher turns out the way you are hoping:

• The branch adds weight. Remember to secure it with some wire.

• Your dream catcher wants to hang all awkwardly, so make sure you place its hanger in the correct spot. Play with it to see that you like its placement.

• These are NOT toys and must be kept out of reach of children. The beads are a choking hazard!
