Fried Fish Masala

This is the dish that I learnt after my marriage from my Mother in law.. Otherwise I knew the simple Fried fish or steamed version of fish only!

Serves2

Ingredients:

Fish (Rahu)                                      ¼ kg (5 medium size pc.s)
Oil                                                    1 wooden spoon (Doi) + For deep frying
Onions                                              3 medium (sliced finely)
Tomato                                             4 medium (chopped)
Green Chili                                       4-6 (chopped)
Red Chili powder                             1 - 2 tsp.
Turmeric Powder                             1/4 tsp.
Ginger Garlic Paste                          1 tsp.
Salt                                                   1 + 1 tsp.
Cumin Powder (Zeera)                     1 tsp.

Procedure:

Remove scales of the fish & wash with wheat flour. Cut fish into medium sized pieces. And marinate it with 1 tsp salt all over for 2-3 hrs. (Though I prefer freezing it before hand.. and when I have to use it.. I defrost it and marinate it again with some salt.)

Heat oil in a pan. Deep fry the marinated fish until cooked & golden brown. It will take about 15-20 min.

Meanwhile, Heat the remaining oil, and add the chopped onions. Fry until onions are golden brown.

Then add garlic and ginger paste, green chilies and the chopped tomatoes, followed by all other spices..

Cook until the oil begins to separate and the gravy has thickened.

Add the strained & fried fish and keep the lid covered for 30 -40 min, so that the masala is incorporated into the fish properly. Turn the sides in between once.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with hot rotis. :)
