SPICES & OATS FACE MASK

Tags: skin mask oats

For the past couple of months I have been trying to figure out the perfect morning routine that allows me to wake up, relax, have a cup of tea and get some work done before the craziness of the day takes over.

With my Summer schedule being officially over I have to use every second of the day to my advantage and mornings are perfect for me to get stuff done without being distracted by all of the different things that happen throughout the day.

If any of you have any suggestions for what I should include, I am all ears. Please let me know!

Although I am still messing around with the system and what to include something that I have stuck with and really begun to like doing is a Mask or a spot treatment right after waking up.

I know this is a bit reversed from what people do normally by being at the beginning of the day instead of the end. Even though it will get clogged up with makeup, dirt, or what not soon after, it leaves your Skin fresh and heightens its natural radiance first thing in the morning.

It’s so nice starting the day off with a really fresh and clean face that shines through instead of doing it before I go to sleep and have all things in the air or just from my sheets and pillows undo my hard work.

That being said, masks can be really expensive, whether you like the sheet masks or the clay ones, each will leave your bank account looking pretty sad if you want to be doing them every day like this. But making your own is crazy cheap and actually works extremely well. I have made a variety of masks over the years and it always comes back to just a few ingredients that make a world of a difference.

The best part is that you don’t have to go out and buy any ingredients. Most if not all of these ingredients can be found right in your own pantry.

The very first day I used this mask, I saw one of my friends a couple hours later and she actually asked what I had been using on my skin. I hadn’t been able to see any difference but she said that it had a real glow about it. When I finally told her what was in it, she thought I had lost my mind just a bit.

WHAT YOU NEED

Oats
Bananas
Nutmeg
Cinnamon

OATS

Although you wouldn’t expect it, oats have been used as a natural skin remedy for hundreds of years. It is a great ingredient for treating acne and fighting dull and flaky dryness that can occur on the skin. Oats also have anti inflammatory properties acts as a natural moisturizer, suitable for all skin types.

BANANA

Bananas are another great ingredient that can be used all on its own because of the amazing benefits for the skin. Not only does it help to repair damage done to the skin but can remove dead skin and act as a moisturizer that helps to regulate the production of oils on the skin. It also can help reduce puffiness beneath the eyes and rid you of wrinkles.

NUTMEG

Along with the oats, nutmeg not only helps to remove acne but also heals acne scars over time and promote a healthy glow to the skin. In addition, nutmeg also has been proven to help fight skin infections and reduce the signs of aging.

CINNAMON

If anything, cinnamon is one of those ultimate ingredients that should be included in everything you use for your skin. It is able to plump the skin, reducing the signs of wrinkles, unclog and minimize the appearance of pores, enhance the overall complexion of the skin, and even remove and soothe areas with dry or dead skin.

As with any product you use on your skin, I recommend testing it out on a patch first to make sure you do not have a strange reaction even if you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

HOW TO MAKE IT:

1/2 cup oats
1 banana
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon

In a food processer or blender, blend up your oats until they are fine but not an oat flour consistency. In a seperate bowl, mash up the banana until it is a smooth paste with no large lumps.

Combine all of the ingredients and mix until a thick mixture is formed. It should b the consistency of playdoh.

Wet your face lightly and rub some of the mixture all over until you have a thin layer on any of the areas you wish to take care of. You should still be able to see you skin underneath.

Allow to sit for 15-30 minutes before washing off the mask with cold water and patting your skin dry.

*This mask can be stored in sealable container in the fridge for up to 3 months.

Since this is a bit of a thicker mask I have tried using it as a daily face wash as well similar to a lush product. If you prefer this to a mask, it works wonders like this as well. Just wet your face, take a little bit of the mask in the palm of your hand, rub it all over and scrub for a bit before rinsing off and patting dry with a clean towel.
