Vitamin C Powerhouse Smoothie

Now one will ever call the weather of Minnesota predictable. Yesterday we had a huge hail storm. Today it is beautiful with calm blue skies. The weather truly has a mind of its own. But it always seems that when the weather gets like this, my emotions follow the roller coaster-like pattern to a certain degree. I have no idea why? So why not nip any sour mood in the butt with a kick of vitamin C?

Luckily, I did not have to go out in the insane weather and was able to simply stay at home and relax. Well… as much as you can relax with a dog who is freaking out about the hail.

But Louie’s shenanigans aside, I have really been in the need of a pick me up of some sort. When the weather changes dramatically like this, not only my mood, but my immune system takes a hit as well. It can’t seem to handle the rapid changes so even when the beautiful sunny days hit, my sinuses are so stuffed and I can’t breathe.

It really makes any level of humidity interesting when your face feels swollen and you can’t breathe. But I digress.

Now peaches are one of those fruits that I eat all the time in their natural state. But I rarely try it in Smoothie form, so I thought ‘no time like the present.’

Since it’s just one of those flavors that has a rich taste but not too powerful, it is a good base for other flavors to build off of.  So I decided to center this entire recipe around the peaches. But having just had a huge grocery haul of fruit this past week, my kitchen is filled with different tropical fruits just waiting to be made into a smoothie.

Pineapples

Papaya

Mangos

Guava

Even longans

Thus, the peach tropical fruit smoothie was born. Since I wasn’t feeling my usual green smoothie concoction, it was the perfect opportunity give this recipe a go.

I prefer to use fresh fruit over frozen in my smoothies because it seems to give so much more flavor. Also, although you can always add ice to the mixture to thicken it up, I prefer a runnier smoothie so using fresh instead of frozen is perfect.

In addition, some of my friends swear by peeling any and all fruit used in their smoothies to give it a sweeter taste. I can understand this with fruits like bananas, pineapples, and oranges, where you can’t eat the peel. But as long as you wash it, I see no problem in using the whole peach (minus the pit) in this recipe. It tastes just as good.

Plus I love the way the red of the peach gives a splash of color into this mostly orangey/yellow smoothie. Very reminiscent of a sunset in the summertime.
