Matar ki kheer is a unique Indian dessert made from green peas. Matar ki kheer is prepared by cooking mashed peas with milk and sugar.

Matar Ki Kheer Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Green Peas 
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee or unsalted butter
  • 1 liters full fat Milk 
  • Sugar to taste
  • pinch of saffron
  • 1/2 teaspoon Green cardamom powder
  • 1-2 tablespoon Raisins or as required
  • cashew nuts and almonds sliced as required

Preparation:



  • Boil the milk in a heavy-bottom deep pan over medium heat, till it reduces to half its original quantity while stirring constantly.
  • Wash the green peas carefully.
  • grind the green peas coarsely.
  • Add saffron into milk and mix it well.

Method:

  • Heat ghee in a Heavy bottom pan and allow it to melt.
  • Add Green Peas into a pan and cook on low-medium flame. Keep stirring continuously. 
  • Cook for 8-10 minutes over medium flame, when ghee starts separating from the past.


  • Add raisins,cashew nuts, and almonds into the roasted peas.


  • Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.


  • Reduce the flame and add the milk.

  •  Add saffron milk in the roasted green pea paste and cook.


  • When kheer gets thick in consistency and is ready.

    • Add sugar and cardamom powder in kheer and cook for 2 more minutes.
    • Turn off the flame and serve kheer in a bowl.

      Green Peas/Matar Kheer
      Tips:
      **keep stirring at regular intervals.
      • You can use any dairy-free milk instead of full-fat milk to make it dairy-free version.
      • you can use diet sugar instead of regular sugar.
