Lawry’s The Prime Rib | Your Prime Choice to Ring In the New Year

Hurrah, when news broke that Phase 3 will commence on 28 December 2020, we let out shouts of joy because this means that we would be able to countdown to the new year with a slightly larger group of friends / family!

To add to the good news, Lawry’s is offering a six-course set-dinner with a variety of excellent seafood dishes.

Without further ado, let us bring you through the courses that are sure to bring you through a gastronomic journey.  Start off with the Octopus with White Truffle as an amuse bouche.  The sliced octopus leg is served with white truffle oil and capsicum mayonnaise, drizzled with yakiniku sauce.  The truffle taste was not overpowering and the octopus leg was not too chewy.  Our only gripe was the slightly small portion.
The next dish was the Lobster Bisque with Hokkaido Scallop, with added croutons, chive bits and a dash of cream.  Oh boy was this comforting and soulful, perfect for this rainy December season (or as 2020’s saying goes, it will warm the cockles of your heart).
The appetiser is one of my favourites from the entire menu – Truffle Burrata.  Although I’m not a huge cheese lover (yes, I’ve been told how much I’ve been missing out), I can’t say no to burrata and this is nothing short of excellent.

The truffle burrata is served with vine cherry tomatoes and grilled vegetables with balsamic reduction, topped with extra olive oil and sea salt.  Just look at how lucious the ooze of the burrata is – I cleaned up every single bit!
Before the mains are served, you would be given a lime sorbet palate cleanser to prepare you for.

What is undeniably the star of the meal and arguably what most people would come to Lawry’s for: The Signature Roasted USDA Prime Rib of Beef.  This New Year’s Eve, you would be served 180g of the USDA prime rib of beef served with mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding and whipped cream horseradish.  You can choose from a side of creamed corn, creamed spinach or buttered peas.

My pick is the creamed spinach – this is so good it can convert non-spinach lovers. The prime rib of beef is so tender and to top it off, the chef will come by your table with their iconic silver carts to carve the beef before your eyes – a treat for your senses indeed!
An alternative main would be the Atlantic Lobster Tail with Ora King Salmon.  Served with ratatouille, mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, this would be the dish for seafood lovers.  The lobster is fresh, plump and juicy whilst the salmon is fork tender.  I love the accompanying pea puree that pairs well with the salmon.

There is also a duck leg confit option featuring slow braised duck leg with herbs and raisin sauce.
End the meal with either a sticky date pudding or lemon drizzle sponge cake.  We were told that Lawry’s would not send their guests home hungry and true to that, we left the place satisfied.

The new year’s eve menu is going for S$178++ / S$198++ per person and is only available on 31 December 2020.  Book early to secure a seat and what better occasion to treat yourself, hope you don’t make a missteak by missing out!
