Eat, Shop and Learn at Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2018

Media Tour at Singapore Botanic Garden

Bearly recalls my last visit to Singapore Botanic Garden. Probably primary excursion trip? Glad to be here last week for an exclusive preview of the activities for Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival held from 30 June to 8 July 2018!

Here’s a sneak preview of what’s happening in this year’s Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival. You can anticipate some of the plants used by indigenous cultures of Southeast Asia, including Singapore, exclusive menus from Fusion Spoon, Halia, Casa Verde, The Garage, Food For Tots and programmes including the movie screening, mass yoga sessions, concerts, various tours, free entry to National Orchid Garden and more! Not forgetting the commentary on Ginger Garden.

Here’s one of the wedding photo ideas that you’ll want to consider. The Bandstand is a hot spot for wedding shoots.

Enjoy the calm and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Quiet walks with your close friend or family along the pavements. I am surprised there are many photo spots at Singapore Botanic Gardens. And of course, fewer photobombing as there isn’t much crowd on a weekday afternoon.

Welcome to the Ginger Garden!

Are you looking for the ginger on the table? Do you know there are more than 550 plant species, varieties, and horticultural cultivars of the ginger order. Ginger has not limited the food that we know of. They are an array of gingers, flowers and leaves lookalike.

Dr Jana Skornickova, principal researcher at the Singapore Botanic Gardens will be sharing more about ginger at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Tour.

A beautiful selection of nature-inspired gifts and souvenirs, from floral jewellery to home decor to exotic teas and more! There are also gold plated orchid framed decor, a good choice as a gift for your overseas business partners.

There are so many iconic places to visit at Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival! And what’s up for your tummy?

Here we have Halia‘s Singapore style chilli crab spaghettini and banana & almond drink. My favourite way of eating chilli crab spaghettini is to sop plenty of the spicy sweet and tangy gravy with the spoon. I enjoyed this dish as it is not so spicy and the sauce is simply addictive. If you cannot take the heat, slurp into banana & almond drink. The banana sweetness somehow balances the spiciness of the chilli crab spaghettini.

Pssst, Halia is a halal certified restaurant. Everyone is welcome

Whether you wish to dine in or uncover the secrets behind Halia’s chilli crab sauce and Singapore Sling, or shopping at the provision store, Halia got you covered.

Fusion Spoon has come out with a new taste of Bo Bo Cha Cha and Crispy Banana Caramel in conjunction with Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival. The crispy banana caramel is similar to Singapore’s snack food, goreng pisang. Something different to this crispy banana caramel is that they have also added caramel and chocolate syrup to this dish. It may be too sweet for some of you.

Crispy Banana Caramel at S$5 nett.

At Casa Verde, the restaurant is located just beside nature. Enjoy the natural breeze and fusion dishes including Beef Rendang Pizza and Heritage Set. The heritage set comes with seafood mee goreng, pandan jelly with aloe vera and refreshing calamansi and a soft drink. Mee goreng is moist and has seafood like prawns and squids added to the noodles. My choice would be Beef Rendang Pizza. The rendang is packed full of flavour and tender to bite. Be aware of the roosters and birds that may be situated just next to you!

Beef Rendang Pizza at S$25 nett.

Heritage set at S$20 nett.

Walked into a conserved heritage building that has been around since the 1920s. Located on the ground level of The Garage, Botanico & Bee’s Knees has prepared seabass ceviche, crispy baby squid and pandan pancakes for Singapore Botanic Garden Heritage Festival.

My bias goes to seabass ceviche. This dish is very appetising, a reinterpretation of Assam laksa with a ceviche of seabass, green chilli, pomegranate, shaved ginger flower and served with tamarind dressed glass noodles and shrimp paste ice cream. This dish has satisfied all my senses. Enjoyed bites of seabass, crunch from pomegranate, the fragrance from ginger flower. However, the ice cream melts pretty fast.

Seabass Ceviche at S$17++.
Crispy Baby Squid at S$13++.
Pandan Pancakes at S$14 nett.
Enjoy a 15% off usual price specially for Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival

Kids will love the self-service concept at Food For Tots, a kids cafe where they can be an independent buyer and also enjoy stamp prints using different vegetables and roots including sweet potato, yam and ginger. DIY Veggie Stamp Placemat Craft Programme is suitable for children aged 3 to 8. Tuck into the two dishes namely pancake with banana marmalade & coconut ice cream and sweet potato fries with kaffir lime mayo.

DIY Veggie Stamp Placemat Craft Programme on 30 June, 1, 7 and 8 July. Walk in only.
Price: S$5 / child

Pancake at S$15 nett.
Sweet potato fries at S$8 nett.
