What To Eat To Celebrate NDP 2017?

Media Tasting at Curry Times

NDP 2017 is just around the corner. In celebrating NDP, you see flags on most of our HDBs. While most restaurants and public places play NDP theme songs. There are a couple of highlights in this year’s NDP 2017; drone light show, Red Lions’ free-fall jump, Dynamic Defence Display and more.

As a foodie, how do I celebrate NDP 2017? Probably searching for local Singapore food like chicken rice, nasi lemak, Laksa and more. Besides having them at the hawker centre, we can also enjoy in shopping malls or at the comfort of home.  Here are a couple of dishes from Curry Times.

Nasi lemak is served with chicken, ikan bilis, peanuts, achar and sunshine egg. The star of this dish is definitely the sambal chicken. Chicken drumstick is moist, tender and redolent of sambal. The combination is good; you get a little spicy on the sambal, appetising with achar and max out the crunch with crispy ikan bilis and peanuts. Probably missing on my favourite otah.

Nasi Lemak with Sambal Chicken Super Drum at S$9.90.

Signature Curry Chicken ( Individual Portion) with Loaf at S$8.50.

Curry Chap Chye at S$6.20.

Curry Prawn Fritters (8 pcs) at S$12.90.

Curry lovers will be delighted to hear that there is a variant of curry dishes. Besides the Signature Curry Chicken, Curry Times has also launched 2 new curry dishes; Curry Prawn Fritters and Curry Chap Chye.

The Signature Curry Chicken comes with a thicker curry gravy. The curry is subtly spicy; which I think suits most of us. You may wish to pair it with loaf or rice. Whereas the Curry Chap Chye comes with a lighter curry gravy. The curry vegetables are cooked soft such that it is easy to bite. And it is innovative to introduce Curry Prawn Fritters. Doughy nuggets of little firm shrimps are crispy, deep fried to golden brown with tasty curried batter.

Not the usual soupy laksa but it has been adjusted to suit the dry version. Dry Laksa Goreng is something like noodle stir-fry with prawns and fish cake slices. It is tasty when you eat it hot; with the fragrance of laksa and mild spices. However, the bee hoon gets a little dry and sticky over time. So, it is best to finish everything while it’s hot.

Dry Laksa Goreng at S$8.50.

Media Tasting at UberEATS

If you want to avoid huge crowds and wondering what can you order from home? You can’t miss the top 6 Singaporean Fusion Dishes Delivered by UberEATS; Satay Burger, BBQ Char Siew Pork Burger, Gula Gila Cake Jar, Golden Salted Yolk Sweet Potato Fries, Seafood Homemade Laksa Linguini and Durian Pizza. And what’s my favourite? The Seafood Homemade Laksa Linguini is an Italian and Singaporean inspired dish and collides in spicy and sweet coconut-based curry sauce. The linguini pasta is perfectly cooked with prawns and mussels in tasty seafood laksa sauce. It is so good that you can’t stop eating it!

Seafood Homemade Laksa Linguini at S$15.90 from HARELOOM BISTRO MODERN

Needless to mention once the pizza box is opened. The rich and pungent smell of Mao Shan Wang definitely made Durian lovers go gaga. The king of fruit is cooked as an Italian dish, pizza. Your choice of D24 or Mao Shan Wang durian on Neapolitan thick crust.

Durian Pizza from Tino’s Pizza Cafe. (S$18.08 for D24, S$23.43 for Mao Shan Wang)
