7 Items to Anticipate In NDP 2017

Get ready to be thrilled, as the Dynamic Defence Display (D3) segment makes a return to NDP 2017 after a two-year absence. This year’s D3 segment is held in two parts, before and after the Parade and Ceremony segment. In celebration of our remarkable 52 years of independence, crowd pleasers like the Red Lions’ free-fall jump and Dynamic Defence Display, showcase a larger military display. Not to be missed! The first unmanned drone light show in NDP, also the largest in Southeast Asia. The Rocker granny who wins our cheers. At last, after a stupendous display, get everyone in the spirit for finales with a 4 minutes firework leapt into the sky and filled it with music and laser displays, and everyone cheered and clapped.

1. Dynamic Defence Display

Making a return to NDP is the Dynamic Defence Display (D3), which will be showcased in two parts. D3 Part 1 underlines the role of the SAF as the ultimate guarantor of Singapore’s sovereignty and independence. D3 Part 2 showcases a realistic simulation of a terrorist attack. The action-packed performance, complete with explosions, pyrotechnics and special effects, showcases how Singapore responds to cyber and terror attacks through a multi-agency counter-terrorism display.

2. The Red Lions

The Red Lions, who were much missed at the last two NDPs, are back to excite the spectators at the floating platform. Performing their freefall from 10,000 feet, the nine-man team from the Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team comprises of four first-time NDP participants, who have at least 260 jumps under their belts. Don’t forget to show our support by roaring and cheering as they descend.

3. NS50 tribute

As Singapore celebrates 50 years of National Service (NS50) this year, the parade and ceremony segment will feature a special tribute to national servicemen and their families. An NS50 tribute video will be screened and the marching contingents will salute NS men past and present.

4. Aerial salute

In addition to witnessing the nation’s air capabilities, spectators will be treated to an aerial salute by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). For the first time, the signature bomb burst manoeuver will be performed by five RSAF F-15SG fighter aircraft, two of which are by NSmen.

5. Drone light show (New item)

What’s taking to the skies this year? A light show made up of 300 drones lighted for the first time. It is also the largest display of unmanned drones in South-east Asia; illuminated the Marina Bay skies at NDP 2017 Preview 2, ahead of the actual National Day Parade. Furnished with LED lights, the drones will fly in seven arrangements including the Merlion, the NDP 2017 logo, and a diagram of Singapore delineate. It is definitely an eye opening for the spectators!

6. Rocker granny

Loud cheers could be heard from the stands at Rocker Granny appearance. Electric guitarist Madam Mary Ho, warmly known as Grandma Mary, made a big appearance to perform two melodies, who took up the instrument when she was 60 and learnt in a month. She is also the oldest performer at 81. Set alongside with more than 3,000 performers from all walks of life.

Joining Grandma Mary in the special performance by senior artistes are Cultural Medallion recipient Santha Bhaskar, Brian Richmond who will perform a rap in Malay and English, and singer Rahima Rahim who will serenade a Mandarin song.

7. Fireworks

Embraces the vision and the ideas and everyone comes together to welcome the 4 minutes fireworks over water level. Accompanied by music and laser displays, some of the fireworks are in close proximity so audiences can get up close with the action. While busy taking photos and videos, don’t forget to admire the beautiful fireworks set live right before our eyes!
