Is Water Really That Important for Our Life?

“Water, water, every which way you turn, but not a drop to drink,” the man said. How frequently do you come across that quotation, or how often do you think about it? If this turned out to be true, as some people believe it will be within the next fifty years or so, then the human species would be in a precarious situation indeed. Without water, life as we know it would come to an end in a matter of days. Water is a fundamental component of life.

Because our bodies can not store water and instead are constantly losing it, maintaining proper hydration requires that we drink water on a regular basis. The percentage of water that makes up the human body ranges from 55 to 75 percent, depending on the gender and age of the person. When water coolers were installed in some schools to record the effect that children drinking water more regularly would have on them, various studies reported that the results showed that the children who drank water more regularly performed significantly better in all areas and were sick much less frequently. This was one of the goals of the studies.

Water is also an indispensable component of life due to the fact that each and every cell in our bodies is dependent on it for proper development and operation. Water ensures that our muscles Continue to function correctly, that our brains continue to function at their peak, that our skin continues to be plump and youthful-looking, and that our spinal column and joints continue to be cushioned.

Water assists us in the digestion of our food and the elimination of waste products through urination and the colon. It also maintains the moisture of our mucous membranes, ensures that our blood is the proper viscosity so that it can easily travel through our veins and reach every part of our body, maintains a consistent temperature in our core, and does a great deal more besides.

Simply said, our ability to exist without water is limited to around three days, after which point we will fall into a coma and eventually pass away.
