Bhuuva for Lunch

What's for Lunch? For those of us who aren't packing a dabba from home, this is an everyday problem. Over the years, I've gotten used to making lunch an healthy affair, both in terms of not going overboard for a meal that is only meant to fuel you for the rest of the day and at the same time making sure the fuel doesn't put you to sleep!

But then there are times when things don't go as planned and that dreaded question comes up. And divine intervention lead us to Bhuuva.

When you see a quick lunch for Rs. 99, brain plays games and you're tempted to think that its all hunky dory, just because the price was in two digits. Bhuuva was different that way. The bright orange might have been an eyesore, but the minimalist and functional interiors balanced it. This little self service place has a menu that is just as minimalist.

A chicken meal for Rs. 99 gives you a portion of rice, a katori each of curd rice, poriyal and sambar, and a larger bowl of  chicken gravy. While my friend, whose brain doesn't shut down after a rice meal got this, I got myself a plate of idly with chicken gravy for Rs. 79 and some mutton for Rs. 99.

We couldn't complain about anything. The chicken gravy was tasty, albeit a bit spicy for me, the mutton was excellent, the idlies were soft and the curd rice was fantastic! I've been in the value trap before and have tried hard to like something simply because it was priced attractively and over the years, I've been able to see through it, but Bhuuva was different. It was real value for money! I only hope, they are able to maintain both the price and the flavour.

Bhuuva is in T. Nagar, just off Bazulla road, on the same street as Madras Coffee House and Coal BBQ.
