Feeling Hot

The weather of late has been either super hot or blimmin’ chilly. One minute you are in your summer shorts and lightweight blouses and the next it’s jeans, jumpers and rain macs. I can’t keep up with it all in all honesty. Every day I wake up thinking I wonder what it’s like out there today and every day it’s a surprise.

The good thing about the hot weather is the iced coffee and gelato stops. I have been making the most of those let me tell you. My go-to places in Exeter right now are Pullo for iced coffee and delicious pastries and Chococo for their homemade Ice Cream.

Cake Or Death Launch

I visited Cake or Death the day after they opened up in Exeter for my chocolate brownie fix and have been a regular through their doors since. They have since added a completely indulgent ice cream sundae to their repertoire using Northern Bloc ice cream and their very own brownies. I wouldn’t like to say how many calories are in that bad boy but it’s worth every single one let me tell you.

Last week I was invited to their official launch to welcome them to the city and as you can imagine it was all about the chocolate. Cake Or Death will be an excellent addition to the already thriving vegan foodie scene in and around Fore Street, Exeter.

Cuckoo Taproom

Steve and I stopped in at the newly opened Cuckoo Taproom on Paris Street to sample their own brewed beers as well as others from further afield. A great new addition to the city since my favourite haunt The Pursuit Of Hoppiness closed last year during lockdown.

Cuckoo is owned by the old manager of The Pursuit Of Hoppiness so I look forward to spending many an hour in there with my friends exploring the drinks menu. I have recently heard via Instagram that Cuckoo are upping their Wine game too with the addition of a wine list curated by Natural Growth Wines. Another reason to go back as you know I love a glass of good vino.

Bristol

I visited my friend Alex in a foodie whirlwind last weekend. We must have devoured half the city ticking off food and drink destinations on my Bristol list.

First up was The Bristol Loaf. A bakery come laid back restaurant with a greengrocer and wine merchant attached. It’s a great spot for tasty food and a glass of something to suit your palate. I really rated the place and would definitely recommend it to my Bristol friends. You can find The Bristol Loaf in two Bristol locations. We visited the Bedminster branch but they have a branch in Redfield too.

For pre-dinner drinks, we visited Snobby’s in Redland. A great spot for drinks and the delicious waft of garlic that greeted us as we walked in through the door would suggest the food is good too. Alex and I opted for a glass of Province rosé recommended by the owner himself. The perfect aperitif in what felt like a little bar in Paris. I loved it. Another big recommendation from me!

Dinner was at Sonny Stores. This place is awesome. Simple food done well, great Mediterranean inspired dishes, delicious wines and fab service. I haven’t stopped raving about it in all honesty. Want a fab review that I can vouch for? Then read this by Jay Raynor.
