Australian Distilling Co ‘Perth Gin’ & Tea Tonic: Recipe

RECIPES | Late last year, Australian Distilling Co released a series of gins, celebrating Australia’s state capitals and famous cities. More than just a naming exercise, ADC’s Michael Hickinbotham and master distiller Dr Graham Jones, partnered with local distilleries across the country and explored local ingredients to create flavours that embrace the spirit of the city or region.

A number of the gins won awards this year, and the team got in contact asking I’d like to try one of them. Being from Perth, I had to choose the Perth Gin, which recently won Double Gold at the 2020 SIP Awards International Spirits Competition, California.

Perth Gin features the floral warmth of boronia and lingering notes of lemon myrtle, perfect for a gin and tonic, to which I added butterfly Pea Flower Tea, which further highlights the gin’s floral notes. Here’s the recipe if you’d like to make the cocktail at home.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes / Cooking time: n/a / Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 30ml Australian Distilling Co ‘Perth Gin’
  • 20ml lemon juice
  • 150ml butterfly pea flower tea
  • 100ml tonic water
  • ½ tumbler of ice

Method

  1. Mix the gin, lemon juice, and tea in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Half fill a tumbler with ice cubes and add the mixture.
  3. Top with tonic water and garnish with a slice of lemon.

Notes

If you can’t find Butterfly Pea Flower tea, a really good alternative is rose. Simply steep a teaspoon of dried rose petals in 150 ml of cold water for 10 minutes.
