How to Make A Productive Morning Routine

In my recent post about how to get motivated, I talk about creating a routine. The best routine to create is a Morning routine. The morning tends to set the tone for how the rest of your day is going to be. In this time of self-isolation, it can be hard to break your day up into morning, noon and night when you are in the same place for the whole day. Here are some tips I have used to help myself split my morning from the rest of the day.

Move your Alarm Clock

Set your alarm clock to a specific time that you want to get up every day, once set put that clock across the room as well as your phone. When that alarm clock goes off every morning you will have to roll out of bed to turn it off and there you go you are out of bed. If you are the kind of person who will just go back to bed (aka me!) make the snooze alarm last for 2-3 minutes that way when you are back in bed almost asleep the alarm will go off and you have to get up again. Hopefully, by this time you will be awake enough to get up. Don’t get me wrong in a time like this it’s easy to go back to bed because you have nowhere to go you have the freedom to sleep all day but if you want to be Productive we can’t have this!

Find Something to Look Forward Too

By having something to look forward to in the morning you will want to get out of bed. For myself, I get excited for my morning cup of coffee. I have created a routine where I make a french press coffee. I grind my own coffee beans and everything, it’s my favourite thing to do in the morning and just puts me in a good mood. You need to find what you exited for and make it the first thing you do in the morning. It can be your favourite breakfast, a workout, a tv show. Anything that will put you in a good mood right away. Now that you have made yourself happy you can now be more productive.

Get Ready

Now I know what you are thinking, “I am in self-isolation why would I need to get ready?” I have been saying the exact same thing but I have also found that when I do get ready I am 10x more productive. By getting ready you have already done something productive with your day. I don’t mean you have to put on a full face of makeup and use the curling iron. I just mean change out of those pajamas you have been wearing for 3 days and put on some leggings and a nice shirt. Give it a try today and see how much more motivation you have.

Do the least desirable task first

You may not have much to do and are just trying to fill your days with something but we still have those chores we need to do. These can be chores you just don’t want to do and you will push off till later or even the next day. Just do them first thing, this way they are out of the way and there is another productive task you can check off your list. These tasks can be laundry, cleaning the bathroom, emptying the dishwasher. You know those things you need to get done but are too lazy to do.

These are just a few ways to get yourself up and moving to help make your day a little more productive. Even if you just do one task that day it’s okay. This is a hard time for everyone and no one knows what to do with their days. This is your time to find a hobby or try something you have always wanted to do. Take the time for yourself.
