4 Ways to Improve Your Sick Day!

With everything that has been going on in the world, the last thing you want is to be Sick. Even though this virus is going around it’s not the only thing going around. The common cold and flu are going around as well. I have been fighting a cold for the past week, so I came up with some ideas to help you get through a sick day. Everyone has their sick day routine to make them feel better but these are a few things I do to make myself feel better.

Make a Tea

The first thing I do when I start to feel sick is making green tea. Green tea has great properties in it for your health especially when you are sick. Check out this article for the benefits of green tea. To help amplify to tea even more I add in lemon juice and honey. Lemons help to loosen up congestion while also keeping you hydrated it’s great to drink it hot or cold. The honey is great for sore throats as it helps to soothe your throat and fights the virus due to its antibacterial effects. You don’t have to just drink green tea there are so many different teas out there that are great for you. Something about drinking a hot liquid when you are sick is just comforting.

Make a Healthy Breakfast

You need food in you to give yourself enough subsistence to fight this illness. This is something I always forget to do because I have no appetite when I am sick but then I wonder why I feel so much worse. One of my favourite breakfast to go to that is quick and easy is oatmeal. Oatmeal is filled with good antioxidants that can help you fight that illness. Again adding things to your oatmeal will make you feel better faster. I added strawberries, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and honey. Hemp seeds are a great source of fat and omega vitamins. Even making a smoothie and adding in a probiotic-rich yogurt is a great way to get probiotics in your Body and help fight faster.

Take A Hot Shower

I love hot showers no matter how I am feeling but there is something about taking a hot shower when you are congested. It helps to open up your sinuses and chest so you can finally breathe for a few minutes. To help enhance this shower and allow you to breathe even more add some essential oils. Eucalyptus and peppermint oils are great to help you breathe. Also, that steam that comes from that hot shower helps to break up the congestion in your chest. I also like to take peppermint oil and mix it into lotion and lather it on my chest, this helps to break up the congestion as well. Even putting some peppermint oil on your temples can help to release some of that sinus pain.

Get lots of rest

When you are sleeping this is when your body is going into repair mode to help reset your body so you are feeling better the next day. Getting a large amount of sleep will help you fight an illness so much faster and you will be better before you know it. If you don’t get the right amount of rest you can make yourself much worse because you are not giving your body the chance to rest and repair. This is something you should be doing even when you are not sick. Sleep is so important for your brain health as well as your body health.

These where just a few of the recommendations that I do to help make myself feel better. The most important thing is you are giving your body time to heel. Most of the time you get sick because you are constantly on the go and not giving your body time to recover. Take the time to just rest and relax and you will be feeling better in no time.

XoXo,

Katelynn
