Mexican Village - Restaurant Impossible Update

Tonight on Restaurant: Impossible, Robert Irvine and his crew are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to makeover Mexican Village. Mexican Village is a Tex-Mex restaurant that is run by owner Abel who purchased it as a gift to his mother and grandfather.  The restaurant is drowning in debt and is causing his relationship with his children to deteriorate. The restaurant is supposedly losing $15,000 a month and Robert needs to get Abel to make some tough choices to save his restaurant and his family.

As I normally do with Restaurant: Impossible episodes, I searched around the Internet to read stories, comments, and reviews about Mexican Village to get an idea of how the restaurant is doing since Robert Irvine visited, and here is what I found (note - all reviews are post Restaurant: Impossible):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Restaurant Impossible was in here last week and this place looks really great. The new menu look delish. I had the Beef Barbacoa taco and it was delish. The staff is wonderful, friendly and they are always helpful. If you like spicy salsa ask for grandpas green salsa"
  • "Food is slammin. Staff is friendly."
  • "Very friendly people, great food, fun atmosphere."
  • "Food was awesome! Cant wait to go back and try more!"
  • "Had a blast here. Jason our waiter was great. The food was excellent. I even tried my first Tequila shot and had 2 more after meeting Evie. She is very friendly and fun. Will definitely be going back!!!"

Negative Reviews:
  • "Robert and Restaurant Impossible didn't help. Can't even answer their phone...it's not that busy, I just drove by"
  • "No chips and salsa served when you arrive. Food portions were small.Maybe order a carry out. But don't sit through the bad attitudes of the blonde bartender, and the young man waiting tables. Terrible service last night. Very slow, brought me a Modelo instead of Miller Lite. The service was not only unapologetic, but unfriendly as well"
  • "BEWARE!! Still no menu. Everything is ale cart. And they add a 20% gratuity to carryout orders without telling you. SHAME SHAME. Dont you think 4.00 is enough for a half a cup of beans and rice. You lost us."
  • "UPDATE: the last 2 times my husband and I have gone here we have noticed that the food just doesn't taste the same.. not sure what has changed ever since the reno but it has changed the way they do things which has changed our opinions.. The meat used to be so juicy and full of flavor, but lately it is just dry and tastes like it has been sitting for a while...would love to go back someday but we are definitely taking a break for a while..."
  • "Recently remodeled with a pared down menu, we were interested in trying it. After about 10 minutes we got a glass of water and were informed they were out of 4 of the menu items. It took about 55 minutes after ordering to get our food. The service was not only unapologetic, but unfriendly as well. Food, although very slow in coming, tasted amazing."

Other News and Links:
  • The Restaurant Impossible makeover for Mexican Village happened in May 2021.
  • Here is the Mexican Village Facebook page and they don't appear to have a website.
  • They will be having a watch party for the episode at the restaurant and will be giving out samples of the new dishes.
  • It seems like they have a lot of bar specials on drinks and have DJ's a lot, so they also operate as a bar at night.
  • Here are the reviews for Mexican Village from Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google.
    • The restaurant does take the time to respond to online reviews on Yelp.

Conclusion:

The reviews for Mexican Village since the Restaurant Impossible makeover have been mixed with there being positive reviews about the food and negative reviews about the service.  Hopefully they can work out the service issues and turn things around.
