Black Sheep’s cocktail program won praise after entering local competitions like Made With Love, Imbibe, and Speed Rack, and the restaurant’s cuisine was featured in Curated Magazine and The Coast. Black Sheep History
John, the owner of Black Sheep, is originally from Newfoundland. He moved to Edmonton when he was 18 to begin his career as a chef and then moved on to Prince Edward Island for more training. After working as the head chef at GIO Restaurant for over five years, he decided to strike out on his own and came up with the concept for Black Sheep.
Black Sheep used to be a small, word-of-mouth-only dive bar on Dresden Row. When we first opened in 2015, our mission was straightforward: to provide a casual setting where people could enjoy great food without any airs of pretense. Black Sheep on Dresden became famous for its unique approach, lengthy wait times, and warm service as word of its existence spread.
