Mr. Bernard G. Palang and his wife, Frances Therese, began meticulous planning for their concept of Italian-inspired, thin-crust pizzas blended with Filipino flavor in November 2007. The goal was to develop different flavors and make giant-sized pizzas to entice customers to eat pizza in groups.

In A. S. Fortuna Street, Brgy. Banilad, Mandaue City, Cebu, the couple opened a Calda Pizza commissary. The first store opened on January 3, 2008, in Salinas Drive, Brgy. Lahug, Cebu City. The combination of a convenience shop and a pizza restaurant functioning side by side was unusual at the time.

Calda Pizza’s growing success spurred the company’s management to launch more company-owned locations and, eventually, franchisees nationwide.
