In 2003, Khaleb was merely a modest family enterprise that at first functioned within the confines of an apartment compound in the Quezon City area. Varquez and Burog had just started their studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman when they decided to form Khaleb.

As soon as the owners decided to pursue higher education at the University of the Philippines, they decided to establish the company to have a source of additional revenue to help pay for their education costs.
