Air Fryer Mashed Potatoes

These no boil Air Fryer mashed potatoes are creamy and tasty. They are the perfect side dish made with simple ingredients that are inexpensive- something I'm all about right now! Make this delicious side dish for your next weeknight dinner.

Nothing says comfort more than a piping hot bowl of mashed potatoes! They are the perfect way to compliment your favorite main dish.

It goes great with just about everything like my Cajun baked salmon, Brazilian chicken Stroganoff, or kielbasa and sauerkraut , and is a great way to fill up the family for just a few bucks!

The best part about this recipe is that you don't need to peel, dice, and boil potatoes for this creamy, comforting dish.The whole family will love when you make this for dinner, and you'll love how easy it is to make.

Ingredients

Potatoes- I used Russet potatoes for this recipe, but you can use Yukon gold potatoes or red potatoes if you like.

Butter - I used real salted butter. If you would like to keep this recipe plant based, choose vegan butter.

Sour cream - I like full fat sour cream. Choose light or fat free if that fits your needs better. If you want to keep this recipe vegan, choose a plant based sour cream.

Milk - I like whole or 2% milk, but they type of milk you use is up to you. If you would like to keep this recipe plant based, choose a plant based milk or vegetable broth. The amount will vary depending on how dense you like your finished product.

Heavy cream - I like the richness that heavy cream add to mashed potatoes made with Russets. This is optional.

Salt and pepper - I like kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Equipment

  • Cosori Air Fryer
  • Tongs
  • Food thermometer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Potato Masher
  • Serving bowls
  • Airtight container

Instructions

Scrub potatoes well under cold running water. Pat potatoes dry with a kitchen towel or some paper towels.

Place potatoes in the air fryer basket. It's easy to to get them in a single layer.

Cook at 400 degrees F 20 minutes. Turn them over so they cook evenly. Cook another 20 minutes.

Potatoes are done when they can be easily pierced with a knife or reach an internal temperature of 185 degrees F.

If your potatoes need more time, continue cooking in 2 minute increments.

When the potatoes are done, remove them from the air fryer basket and place them on a plate or cutting board to remove the skins.

Now add them to a large bowl along with the melted butter, sour cream and a splash of the milk and cream.

Mash potatoes with a masher until smooth. Add more milk as needed. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Kitchen tips

I didn't find it necessary to use parchment paper or cooking spray in the air fryer.

There's no need to pre-heat the air fryer for this recipe.

There's no need to poke holes or use foil.

How to store

For best results, store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to five days.

Freeze in freezer safe containers for up to three months.

How to reheat

You can warm these up in the microwave, oven, air fryer or stove top.

In the microwave, cover leftover potatoes and heat on high power. Time will depend on how much you're reheating. It's best to warm them up part way, stir, then heat the rest of the way. If potatoes are drying out, add a splash of milk or cream. Let stand one minute.

In the oven, place in a casserole or oven safe dish. Dot with butter if desired.Cover with foil tightly and heat in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 15 or 20 minutes, or until hot.
