Fuel 10K – Banana & Chocolate Oat Muffin

Pot

A bold Black and Yellow design in a short stumpy cup, that’s not to wide to hold.

The bold claim of a lovely looking muffin in 45 seconds is prominent and something taht attracts you to purchase.

Its green credentials need working on as its a plastic lid, on top of a plastic cup wrapped in cardboard.

What’s Inside and how to prepare

Looking under the lid you see nothing but powder and odd bit of chocolate chips.

The instructions say that all you need to do is add 60ml of water, and this is an issue the manufacturers haven’t thought of, not everyone of their customers will be using this in their own kitchen with a measuring jug. A lot of their customers will be using this in a shared office kitchen that will be lucky to have a tea spoon let alone a measuring jug or a 15 ml table spoon. I think they should just go and put a fill line inside the container to make it easier for people to use.

Taste

After adding in what I calculated being the correct amount of water, I had to wait a minute as the office Microwave was a little under power to hit the 45 second target I was presented with this.

After a few seconds comparing reality with the picture on the side of the packet, I decided I better taste it. Before I could taste it I was hit with an overly strong smell of Vanilla mixed with a hint of plastic that was over empowering the office.

Getting past the aroma and cutting a slice of the muffin with my spork, it felt I was slice a week old cake, and unfortunately the texture also felt like a week old cake in my mouth. The Muffin had a strong taste of banana, mixed with vanilla, but I couldn’t taste any chocolate. As I endured more bites, I was still getting the stale taste of Banana and vanilla, and it was not until I hit the bottom of the pot did the chocolate chips appear. The chocolate was not of the highest quality and did nothing to overcome the strong vanilla and plastic aroma that was on my palate, that was starting to make me feel a little queasy.
