Would You Rather: Craft Beer Edition

The other day I asked my followers on Instagram to play a game of Would You Rather, but with a twist. All the questions (for the most part) connected to craft Beer. I started off with coming up with some questions, and then I let my followers take over and create questions. Below I will share what they thought and if I agreed or disagreed with the majority and why.

A bar you’re at doesn’t have craft beer. Would you rather order a liquor drink or a domestic (basic beer)?

65% said liquor

35% said domestic

I AGREED with the majority here and went with liquor. I of course prefer to drink craft beer, but sometimes depending on where I am at that isn’t an option. In that case, I would much rather prefer ordering a Gin and Tonic or a Vodka Soda than say something like a Budlight. Also, I LOVE dive bars, but aren’t usually a fan of their beer selection, but they usually have a wide selection of liquor and they pour strong!

Would you rather go to a craft beer bar or a brewery?

81% said brewery

19% said craft beer bar

I AGREED with the majority and said a Brewery. I personally love both, but I do find myself at a brewery more than a craft beer bar. Maybe it’s because there are just way more breweries around me than craft beer bars. Even though I like the variety a bar offers, I still prefer a brewery over a bar most days.

It’s a Friday night, would you rather drink at home or a brewery?

56% said brewery

44% said home

I AGREED with the majority and would prefer to spend my Friday night at a brewery. I have plenty of beer at home and could easily drink plenty there, but if I had the chance I would rather be at a brewery. Sadly my husband and I don’t get out often because babysitters are hard to find, but when we do, you can probably find us at a brewery.

It’s your first time at a brewery, would you rather order a flight of beer or just a pint of whatever sounds good?

66% said flight

34% said pint

I AGREED with the majority and enjoy ordering a flight when I visit a brewery for the first time. I like to try as much as I can, and a flight is the way to go! Also, if it is a brewery I am visiting while away from home and I know I probably won’t be back any time soon, I enjoy a flight just to try as much as I can while there. After my flight is done, I often order a pint of my favorite beer afterwards.

When at a bar/brewery would you rather order a dark beer or a light beer?

52% said light

48% said dark

I agreed with the majority and said light. To me a light beer I would order would be an IPA because they’re my favorite.

Would you rather go to a place that has excellent food but not a great draft list or a place that has an amazing draft list but no food?

77% said great draft list

23% said great food

I AGREED with the majority and said great draft list. I got a lot of messages about this one with people telling me it all depends on if they’re hungry or not. That of course makes total sense, but at the end of the day I am going to pick beer over food.

Would you rather snack on popcorn or pretzels while drinking beer?

70% said pretzels

30% said popcorn

I DISAGREED with the majority here and went with popcorn. I just love popcorn and always get happy when I see a brewery that has their own popcorn machine.

Would you rather play brewery bing or brewery trivia?

66% said trivia

34% said bingo

I DISAGREED with the majority here and went with bingo. Trivia requires too much thinking, and when I am out drinking I like to give my brain a break. Plus, when I am older and retired I will totally become a bingo playing grandma!

Would you rather have a bartender that is a beer “know it all” or knows nothing about beer?

83% said know it all

17% said knows nothing

I DISAGREED with the majority here and said I would want a bartender that knows nothing about beer. I have spent way too much time at breweries/bars with bartenders who think they know everything about the brewing process, beer, what I would like, etc. To me that’s annoying and at times cocky. I’ve been very involved in the craft beer world for over ten years, and I feel pretty confident with my knowledge. I would much rather enjoy my beer in peace than listen to someone give me a lesson the entire time.

Would you rather play pool or darts at a bar?

50% said pool

50% said darts

This was our only tie of the game, and I personally went with darts. I am terrible at both, but prefer darts over pool.

Would you rather go to a bar that only serves stouts or IPAs?

67% said IPAs

33% said stouts

I AGREED with the majority here and said IPAs. If you know me, you know I am an IPA girl, ‘Nuff said.

Would you rather travel to get your craft beer or have it mailed to you?

69% said travel

31% said mail

I AGREED with the majority and said I would rather travel. Yes, I understand it depends on many different factors, but if I had the choice to travel every weekend I’d do it!

Would you rather buy a brewery shirt or a brewery hat?

80% said shirt

20% said hat

I AGREED with the majority and said a shirt. I personally do not wear hats, so this was an easy question to answer.

Would you rather drink beer from a bottle or a can?

52% said can

48% said bottle

I AGREED with the majority and said can. This was a close one for sure! I said can for a few reasons. 1. I drink mostly IPAs and those are made to drink fresh. If you are not aging something I do not see why it needs to be in a bottle. Also, I live in Colorado where we have more sunshine than Florida. Cans protect the beer better from the sun, so it is a better fit for where I live.

Would you rather go to a brewery with a kitchen or one with rotating food trucks?

61% said food trucks

39% said kitchen

I DISAGREED with the majority and said kitchen. To me food trucks are unreliable. You never know for sure when they will be there, a lot of the time their menu is very specific and might not be something I want, and when I am drinking I usually just want some quick bar food.

Would you rather be at a brewery with live music or natural ambiance?

64% said natural ambiance

36% said live music

I AGREED with the majority and said natural ambiance. I usually am not a fan of live music. To me it is too loud and a lot of times not the type of music I would listen to. I would much rather prefer to have it quiet enough to enjoy a conversation with whoever I am with.

When you order a flight would you rather drink it in the order the bartender recommends or in whatever order you want?

61% said whatever you want

39% said how the bartender recommends

I DISAGREED with the majority here and said how the bartender recommends. Do I do this every time? No. However, most bartenders know what they are talking about, so why not drink it how they suggest?

Would you rather be at a crowded brewery with a good atmosphere or an empty one having a good conversation with the bartender?

66% said empty

34% said crowded

I AGREED with the majority here and said I would prefer an empty brewery with good conversation. I do not like anywhere that is crowded (especially during Covid times) so I would much rather have it not super busy and a time to talk to someone new.

Would you rather have a beer Instagram account with a lot of followers or just a few that you talk to regularly?

73% said a few

27% said a lot

I DISAGREED with the majority and said a lot. I have a decent amount of followers (close to 12k) and I feel that I get the best of both worlds. I have met so many great people that I do talk to and see on a regular basis AND I get to go to a lot of cool events, have been sent beer to try, and have been able to participate in some pretty cool things.

Would you rather buy a brewery sticker or a brewery koozie?

79% said sticker

21% said koozie

I AGREED with the majority and said sticker. I don’t normally drink my beer from a can, so a sticker just makes more sense to me.

Would you rather drink one beer at a time on a flight or sip them all first?

57% said one at a time

43% said sip them all first

I DISAGREED with the majority and said sip them all first. No real reason here, I just like to take a quick sip first and see which ones I like the most.

Would you rather ask for a recommendation at a brewery or just pick a beer?

59% said ask for a recommendation

41% said just pick a beer

I DISAGREED with the majority and said I would just pick a beer. I usually know what style I like, and just pick one of thoses. Sometimes though if I find myself stuck between a few different ones I will ask for a recommendation or a sample.

Would you rather go to breweries with great games or just a relaxing atmosphere?

85% said relaxing atmosphere

15% said great games

I AGREED with the majority and said relaxing atmosphere. I find some of the games really loud and annoying. I am usually at a brewery because I want to relax, not to play games.

Would you rather order a beer at 5% ABV or above?

74% said above

26% said 5%

I AGREED with the majority and said above 5%. Mostly because the majority of the beers I like are above that percentage. I am definitely not out trying to get drunk though.

Would you rather drink a funky sour or a fruited one?

62% said fruited

38% said funky

I AGREED with the majority and said fruited over funky. To be honest, I would probably never order either, but if I had to pick, it would be fruit over funk.

Would you rather day drink or evening drink?

56% said day drink

44% said evening drink

I AGREED with the majority and went with day drinking. The older I get the more I enjoy day drinking. You can enjoy your drinks, eat a lot of food, get some good sleep, and then wake up and feel good the next morning!

Would you rather drink a light or dark lager?

51% said light

49% said dark

I DISAGREED  with the majority and said dark lager. No real reason here, I just prefer darker ones over lighter ones.

Would you rather drink a smoother beer or a bitter one?

68% said smoother

32% said bitter

I DISAGREED with the majority and picked bitter over smoother. To be bitter means IPAs and we all know how much I love them.

Would you rather order a seltzer or a cider at a bar/brewery?

62% said cider

38% said seltzer

I AGREED with the majority and said cider. I would probably never order either of them, but if I had to pick I would go with a cider.

Would you rather have table service or order at the bar?

71% said bar

29% said table

I AGREED with the majority and said order at the bar. I am probably going to be sitting at the bar, so I might as well order there.

Would you rather sit inside or outside at a brewery? (Let’s say the weather is nice)

76% said outside

24% said inside

I AGREED with the majority and said outside. If the weather is nice out I would much rather get some sun and enjoy my beer outside. However, it all depends on the outdoor space and what the inside of the brewery looks like.

That’s it! Thank you all for participating. I had a lot of fun and had some good conversations with others. I will definitely try to do this again someday!
