Peach Mango Smoothie Recipe

Smoothie history dates back to 1900 when the first blender was introduced. The idea of the smoothie actually emerged around the 1930s when health food stores on the Pacific Coast began selling pureed fruit drinks. Its meteoric rise in popularity in 1960 can be attributed to the health industry which propagated this blended, rich, thick and nutrition-loaded drink. By 1990 smoothies were popular on the menus of coffee shops. Smoothies are very easy to prepare….they comprise a base, some natural sweetness, and a spice or a crunch. The base which goes into the blender first is either water, fruit juice, fresh curd, herbal teas or a moisture-laden vegetable such as a cucumber. Next in the blender goes in the fruit/fruits…. apples, mangoes, bananas, berries, peaches, pineapples…the choice is yours. They add natural sweetness and load up the drink with fiber and micronutrients. This fruit load is followed by the natural spices such as ginger, cinnamon or nutmeg which give a punch to the drink. Leafy greens and superfoods such as chia, flax, moringa, nuts, dry fruits, and cocoa can be added to enrich the smoothie with anti-oxidants and immunity boosters. Consistency of a smoothie can be preferential and requires balancing the base to get the required consistency—– For a smoothie drink increase the quantity of base ingredient and for a smoothie bowl increase the fruit portion. For creamy smoothies add a dollop of peanut butter, avocado, bananas or coconut cream. In summers add some ice cubes for the refreshing feel. The key to the ‘perfect smoothie’ is experimenting and practice. Garnish of nuts and dry fruits add to the colour and healthy fats. Breakfast smoothies are best eaten as a smoothie bowl …they are thick and will keep you satiated for long hours. Foodialogues shares a Peach –Mango smoothie….thick, rich and creamy that can be spooned in for a quick breakfast.
