Instructions

Step 1 – Wrap the the hotdogs in bacon. Grab a piece of bacon and wrapped hotdog in bacon starting at one end wrapping the bacon around the hotdog. The idea here is to not overlap the bacon when you are wrapping. This will make for more even cooking.

Tip: If you want you can secure the bacon at each end with a toothpick.

Step 1 – Play bacon wrapped hot dogs and air fryer with space in between for even airflow.

Place the completed hotdogs on a baking sheet. If you were just doing a few of them like I am placed them directly in the air fryer basket.

Cooking Bacon Wrapped Hotdogs in the Air Fryer.

I cover a few different cooking methods for these bacon wrapped hot dogs. First time going to cover the one that I do the most often which is cooking them in the air fryer. The oven method and grill method will be covered below.

I find that it is not necessary to preheat the air fryer when cooking these bacon wrapped hot dogs. Are used thick cut bacon to make these hotdogs. If you are using standard sliced bacon I would decrease the cooking time a couple of minutes.

Air Fryer Cooking Time and Temperature

Cooking Temperature 400 Degrees Fahrenheit
Cooking Time 10 Minutes (Less if you like less crispy bacon)

Step 2 – Flip the Hotdogs about halfway through the cooking time. If you have not secured the bacon with toothpicks be careful when flipping. If you are using thinner bacon it usually crisps up pretty quickly and does not move around.

Step 2 – Halfway through the cooking time flip the hotdogs to assure the bacon is crispy on all sides.

When it came time to flip my air fryer bacon wrapped hot dogs the bacon was still a bit soft. I did use thicker cut bacon. Crispy bacon is how I like it when I make this bacon wrapped hot dogs recipe.

Step 3 – Toast the hot dog buns by removing the hotdogs when they are done cooking. Place each hotdog in a bun and return them to the air fryer basket and cook for about 30 seconds to toast up the bun.

Step 3 – Toasting the bun is simple place the hotdog in a bun and place it back into the air fryer basket and cook for 20 to 30 seconds.

Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs Oven Instructions

I sometimes like to make these bacon wrapped hot dogs in the oven. I usually, do this when I am making a large number of hotdogs because you can fit a lot of these hotdogs on a baking sheet. I find that lining the baking sheet with parchment paper keeps things from sticking.

Preheat Oven to 400 Degrees Fahrenheit
Cooking Time is 12 to 15 Minutes (or until bacon is crisp to your liking)

Hint: When hotdogs are done cooking I put them in the buns and place them back in the oven to toast the buns up a bit. I think the hot dog isbetter when the bun is toasted with a medium heat. In less than 20 minutes we have amazing hotdogs.

Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs Grill Instructions

If you were having a cookout with your friends or family bacon wrapped hot dogs on the grill add something a little different to your get together. Why not kick it up a notch. Hotdogs on any grill is fantastic.

Preheat Grill to a Low Setting. (If using charcoal place coals on one side of grill)
Brush Grill Grates with a little bit of oil. Using a grill mesh mat is really convenient.
I find securing the bacon with the toothpicks is a good idea when grilling.
Place bacon wrapped hot dogs on the clean grill grate.
Cook 8-10 minutes tuerning often until bacon is crispy and cooked to your liking.

Substitutions

If you know how to make the recipe fit a certain diet, let the reader know here. Don’t fake it – only provide guidance on topics you have actual experience with.

  • Turkey Bacon – instead of pork bacon substitute turkey bacon for a healthier lower fat alternative.
  • Bun – use gluten free buns instead of white bread buns to make this gluten free
  • Vegetarian – the beef hot dog can be replaced with a plant-based hotdog to make this vegetarian. Beyond Sausage, Lightlife Smartdogs, or Field Roast Stadium Dogs are options.

Even if your reader doesn’t follow a specific diet (eg. gluten free), they may have friends or family that they’re cooking for that could use this. This is also a great idea to link out to another blogger with a similar recipe that fits a different diet.

Variations

It’s always good to have variations. After all variety is the spice of life. Here are a few ideas to take your bacon wrapped hot dog to the next level.

  • Shredded Cheese – add shredded cheese to the hotdog the last few minutes of cooking time for some cheesy bacon goodness.
  • Chopped Onion, Pickles and Tomato – add some crunchy veggie options for a Chicago Style Bacon Hotdog
  • Chili and Cheese – add chili to make a delicious chili bacon dog. Why not make it a chili, cheese, bacon hotdog. After all it is a danger dog.

Equipment

In each of my recipes, I like to list the equipment I used and other kitchen essentials that I find useful in the kitchen. I do make a small commission of these items at absolutely no cost to you. Thanks for all of your support.
