Instructions For Making This Coconut Coffee Recipe With Honey

Making the coffee base is easy and much better if you have a home espresso machine. If you have not yet invested in an espresso machine, now is a good time. You’ll end up with much better coffee at home, and you will save a lot of money from your trips to Starbucks, Dunkin’ and Costa.

That’s why I call it an investment!

If you have not yet made that investment, you can use a moka pot to make the strong coffee base.

Making The Perfect Espresso For Your Iced Honey Coconut Coffee Recipe

To make the perfect shot of espresso, use the original and traditional Italian weights and ratios which are as follows:

  • Weight per shot: 30 grams (30 ml); 1 Ounce.
  • Coffee to water ratio: 1:1.5.

This means for a double shot of espresso you need to weigh 40 grams (1.34 oz) of dark roasted coffee beans to a fine powder like espresso grind size.

Use a ceramic flat burr grinder to grind your beans in 5 second bursts and rest for 3 seconds.

The burst technique helps to avoid clumping and helps to prevent heat transfer problems. A ceramic burr helps to prevent heat build up while a flat burr gets the greatest grind accuracy.

Put your grinds in your portafilter and tamp with a flat and even pressure of approximately 30 kg.

Pay attention to your tamping skills as this is a much underrated skill in terms of importance. It is incredibly easy, but get it wrong and you, and you can get all kinds of problems like channeling, poor flow rate of your hot water between the grinds.

Put your digital coffee scales on your drip tray and weigh your shot. Time your extraction too. The Timemore black mirror digital scale will do both functions for you.

If your scales don’t have this function, time the extraction rate with an app on your phone.

The perfect weight for a double shot is 2 Oz (60 grams) and the perfect brew time is 25 seconds with an allowable variance of 5 seconds.

If your double shot is more or less than 60 grams (2 Oz), you will need to adjust your espresso machine or manually intervene and stop it or brew more.

If your brew time is less than 20 seconds, your shot will be under brewed and sour. The best way to fix this is to use a smaller grind size to encourage greater contact with your hot water and your coffee grinds.

If your shot takes more than 30 seconds to brew it will be over brewed and too bitter. The best way to fix this is to use a slightly larger grind size to aid the flow of the hot water between grinds.

When you have the perfect shot, move to the next step which is to chill your shot.

Pay Attention To Your Grind Size

Making Your Coffee Using A Moka Pot

Start by measuring your water and using 4 ounces (120 ml) of water. Add it to the water chamber of your moka pot and pre-heat your water to 70C (160 F).

Weigh 15 grams of whole coffee beans to a fine espresso grind size.

Add your coffee grounds to your moka pot and brew your moka coffee.

The coffee brewed is using a 1:8 ratio instead of the usual 1:10 for a bolder and stronger coffee.

The preheating of the water helps to create a better quality of moka pot coffee. The pre-heating of the water causes less rising of water vapor, getting your coffee grounds wet which detracts from the flavor when it brews.

When your coffee is ready, proceed to chilling your coffee.

Chill Your Hot Coffee

Chill your coffee instantly by using the Latte Love Brew Shakerato Technique.

Add ice to a cocktail shaker or mason jar and pour your coffee slowly over your ice cubes and shaker with vigor and energy for a minute.

Your coffee will be instantly chilled.

Preparing Your Coconut Milk

Add 4 ounces of coconut milk into a bowl or mason jar. Add two teaspoons of raw organic honey or manuka honey and stir well to mix it and get a good even distribution of flavor.

Froth your milk using a handheld electric milk frother. Insert your handheld electric milk frother into the bottom of your mixture and froth evenly and move your wand from the bottom to the top and then back to the bottom.

When you have good quality consistency, you can either pour it directly into your coffee and add ice.

Or you can add crushed ice to a blender, add your coconut milk and honey mixture and coffee to your blender and blend at a high speed for 30 to 45 minutes.

Add your coconut coffee frappé to a tall glass and enjoy.
