What Are Double Walled Mugs Anyway?

A double walled mug is basically a mug that has a small layer of air in between two walls of whatever the mug is made out of. You can see this very clearly in glass double wall mugs, and it’s exactly what’s going on with other materials.

The layer of air that sits in between the walls is a great insulator, which is why, surprisingly, double wall glass mugs work really well at maintaining a steady temperature.

This vacuum is one of the best insulators, as there’s not a constant cycle of air for the heat to transfer too. There was a study done where the temperature of hot drinks were measured over 6 hours. The double wall mugs and glasses worked incredibly well compared to a normal glass or mug.

Normally these mugs are made of high quality borosilicate glass, and can generally accommodate hot and cold drinks, as well as being durable. I mean, it’s still glass, but as far as glass goes it’s pretty durable.
