About This Recipe

A Mocktail is a non-alcoholic drink that contains various combinations of syrups, sodas, and fruit juices to create a refreshing beverage. Mocktails mimic the taste and appearance of alcoholic cocktails but do not contain any alcohol. This 4th of July mocktail is festive and refreshing and features red, white, and blue colors, which are synonymous with the American flag.

What You Need to Make 4th Of July Mocktail

  • Grenadine: Grenadine is a sweet and tart syrup made from pomegranate juice, lemon juice, and sugar. It is often used as a cocktail ingredient to add flavor and color. It can also be used in mocktails, desserts, or other sweet treat recipes. Due to the high amount of sugar in this syrup, you can use it as the bottom layer of the mocktail.
  • 7up or Sprite: For the second layer I used 7up or Sprite. The amount of sugar in the second layer of the drink should not be more than the first layer of the drink because it will cause them to mix together.
  • Blue Gatorade: For the top layer of the mocktail, you should use a drink that has the lowest amount of sugar so that it does not mix with the other layers. Gatorade Zero has no sugar and is suitable for this purpose. You can also use blue curaçao syrup (non-alcoholic) for this mocktail. Just make sure to dilute a small amount of syrup with water so that it does not mix with other layers of the drink.

Step-By-Step Instructions

  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour the grenadine syrup (heaviest syrup) into the glass. This will form the first layer of your mocktail.
  • Take a spoon and hold it just above the ice cubes at a slight angle.
  • Slowly pour 7up orSprite over the back of the spoon and let it trickle down onto the first layer.
  • Slowly pour blue Gatorade over the back of the spoon and let it trickle down onto the second layer. Make sure to pour slowly and carefully to avoid mixing the layers.
  • Serve and enjoy!

FAQs

What Is a Basic Rule for Layering Drinks?

Make sure the layers have different weights or densities. That way, they will naturally settle on top of each other. So, consider the syrup or drink with the highest sugar content for the lowest Layer, and so on for the other layers. Use cold liquids and slow pouring to help the layers stay separate.

What Can I Substitute for Blue Gatorade in This Recipe?

Blue Gatorade is a bright blue-colored drink that is flavored with blue raspberry. Gatorade Zero has no sugar and that’s why I used it for the top layer of the mocktail. Non-alcoholic curaçao syrup has a beautiful blue color and a pleasant citrus taste, which seems to be a good substitute for blue Gatorade but because its sugar content is higher, you should dilute it with water before adding it to the mocktail.
