Nutella Puff Pastry Twists Recipe

Golden crispy Nutella puff pastry twists are a perfect snack or treat. With puff pastry, you can make quite a lot of sweet and savory treats but if you ask me Nutella twists are the most delicious.

About This Recipe

Puff pastry (pâte feuilletée) is the main ingredient of our Nutella twists. Puff pastry is prepared by placing butter inside the pastry, then folding and rolling it out several times. This process is relatively simple but requires patience because you have to be careful that the butter stays cold. The process of making your own puff pastry is time-consuming so I always prefer to use ready-made store-bought pastry. The combination of light airy and flaky puff pastry and Nutella filling is always a winner!

What You Need To Make Nutella Puff Pastry Twists

  • Puff pastry: Thaw the dough in the fridge for 3 to 4 hours before use, or follow the instructions on the box.
  • Nutella: In this recipe, we spread a layer of Nutella on puff pastry, which gives it a rich taste of chocolate and hazelnuts.
  • Melted butter: After twisting the pastries you should brush them with melted butter.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out puff pastry in a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  • Spread a layer of Nutella onto half of the pastry. Fold the sheet in half over itself and gently roll them together with the rolling pin.
  • Using a sharp knife, slice the pastry into 1/2 inch or wider strips. Gently twist the ends of each strip in opposite directions to form a spiral effect.
  • To prevent untwisting, press the ends into the parchment paper. Place Nutella twists on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them a few centimeters.
  • Brush them lightly with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar if you like.
  • Bake in preheated oven until it turns golden brown and crispy, about 15 minutes. Serve with extra Nutella or sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

Do I Have to Brush the Nutella Twists With Melted Butter?

Melted butter is optional but it gives a nice shine and golden color to our Nutella twists.
