With variations on the Chocolate Delight recipe

Do you need a dessert for a trap dinner or for dinner? This layered chocolate delight lives up to its name and it’s always a hit! Just get ready for recipe requests; take along copies of the recipe or share it with friends via email or Facebook.

The chocolate-delicious dessert is made with a Graham Cracker crumb. It’s layered with custard, sweetened cream cheese, whole milk, optional chopped nuts or pecans.

The variations on this basic recipe are endless. Make it with pecan or peppermint bark, or use butterscotch, pistachios or banana Pudding. Check out the options below the recipe.

What you need

. 2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1/2 cup butter (melted) 8 ounces cream cheese (softened ) 1 cup confectioners’ sugar 1 large tub (16 ounces) frozen fruit pudding, thawed (or two 8-ounce tubs) 2 packages (3.9 ounces), chocolate-based pudding or one vanilla and one chocolate 3 cups cold milk Optional: 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

How to make

Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C/Gas 4). Combine graham cracker crumbs, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, and melted butter; press into bottom of 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. Bake 10 minutes. Cool completely before assembling layers. Soften cream cheese with confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Stir in half of the whipped cream until well blended, then spread the mixture between the cooled crusts. Brush the custard with milk according to the package directions (using only 3 cups of milk) and spread over the cream cheese layer. Place the remaining softened topping over the dessert and spread to cover. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts, if desired. Chill carefully before serving.

Variations

Salted antique cream – combine 1 1/2 cups crushed crystals with 1/3 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup melted butter. Bake baking mix and bake at 350 F (180 C/Gas 4) for 8-10 minutes. Cool completely and continue with recipe. Nut Crust – In a bowl combine 1 cup finely chopped pecans with 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup melted butter. Bake mixture in a baking pan. Bake at 350 F (180 C/Gas 4) for about 20 minutes or until set and lightly browned. Cool completely and continue with recipe. Milk Cake Cookies – Place Graham cracker crumbs in 2 cups of finely crushed Sandies or Pecan Sandies'with. Vanilla Waffle Cream – Replace Graham cracker crumbs with 2 cups finely crushed vanilla wafers. Butterscotch Delight – Use butterscotch pudding in place of two cold chocolate puddings and replace pecans with Heath-iffee chips, shaved with semisweet or milk chocolate or chopped crystallized bars. Lemon Delight – Use lemon custard and top with toasted coconut or chopped or grated lemon zest. Banana Delight – Use banana pudding and top with toasted coconut. Pistachio – Use pistachio pudding and top with toasted pistachios. Cookies and Cream Delight – Use 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix and 1 package instant cookies and cream pudding. Or use white chocolate pudding and sprinkle 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies between the first layer of whipped topping and the pudding layer.
