A visit to Jabbarwockey

On the cusp of London Road and Abbeydale Road you’ll find Jabbarwockey (or Jabeerwockey), a cosy little dive bar offering up warming food and fantastic drinks. It’s the perfect little bar to pull up for an evening of drinks and music or a Sunday of relaxing and games of pool. While the bar feels cosy, it’s got plenty of space for you and your dog and carpeted floor so your dog will likely thank you for it.

Jabbarwockey is situated in the old Polish bar on London road and they’ve certainly carried over a Polish flavour into their food and drink offering. Starting with the bar menu, you’ll find a range of continental lagers on draft with an everchanging menu of craft beers on cask and keg. The beer menu is ideal if you like to try something new on a regular basis, and Jabbarwockey is always bringing in varied beers to try out. If beer isn’t your thing, those Polish roots also extend to a fantastic range of vodkas that mean the bar has a bit of a specialty when it comes to a White Russian and an Espresso Martini. The White Russians are to die for and they’re a bargain at under £6

Excellent value for money is a running theme at Jabbarwockey, and it extends to their food menu. The best thing about the independent spots of Abbeydale Road is that they’re all trying to offer something a little different, and Jabbarwockey’s food menu is something you won’t find in many other places in the area. The stars of the relatively small menu are without a doubt the hearty goulash and tasty handmade dumplings, both are available in meat and vegetarian options. I opted for the chunky beef goulash, which comes with butter and a wedge of soft tiger bread, while the lovingly made dumplings come with a range of dips. My words can’t do the food justice though, so check out this photo:

If you head to Jabbarwockey on a Wednesday they have an offer for discount dumplings, while if you’re in there on Sunday the pool table is free to use all day. We think this bar is a real gem in the area and a great spot to relax with great tunes, tasty food and friendly welcoming staff.

As a bar on London Road it goes without saying that they can get a little busy on match days, so plan your visit wisely.

Jabbarwockey is part of our Dog Friendly London Road and Abbeydale Road section, head there for more of the same.
