How to make fish Tikka | tandoori fish Tikka recipe at home
Fish Tikka is a very popular recipe for all Fish lovers. This spicy fish tikka are marinated in a yoghurt based marination and then baked , roast or shallow fry till crisp golden. Fish Tikka are served as an appetizer or snacks with cilantro mint chutney, lemon wedges and onion slices.
But it can be paired excellent with a salads like green tossed salad, corn salad . But my favorite is brussel sprouts salad with fish tikka.

Fish Tikka recipe is very easy and with little ingredients you can make this recipe at home like a restaurant style.
Tandoori fish Tikka recipe can be made by using an oven or on Tawa. To make this recipe all you need is boneless fish fillet. Fish can be of your choice.
Below are some fish which are good for a fish tikka recipe.

Cut fish fillet into cube size pieces and marinated in tandoori masala for 4 to 5 hours.
After that thread them into a Shewer and bake in Oven or roast on a Tawa till crisp golden.
There are some popular fish tikka recipe that you can make easily at home. Some of them are as follow :-
1. Kasundi fish Tikka
Kasundi is a paste of mustard or Rai which is used to marinate the fish pieces along with some other spices.
2. Malai fish tikka
Malai is a rich creamy sauce made by making cashew paste along with rich cream and cheese.
3. Pahadi fish tikka
Pahadi fish tikka is a spicy fish tikka recipe where green herbs like cilantro, mint and spinach paste are used along with green chili.
4. Amritsary fish tikka
This is popular Punjabi version of fish tikka where fish cubes are marinated with spicy red chilli powder, carom seeds and other spices. This fish tikka can be either deep fried or roast in ovalclay tandoor.
Chickpea flour( besan ) along with beaten egg is used to coat the fish cubes for deep frying. Yoghurt is not used while deep frying them.
What is tandoori fish tikka?
Basically tandoori fish Tikka means that the fish is cooked in an ovalclay charcoal Tandoor.
But the term tandoori is also used to refer thep tandoori masala.
So a tandoori fish tikka means that the fish is either cooked using a tandoori masala or in an ovalclay tandoor.

Fish tikka masala
This is the most effective way to use your leftovers. Simmer those leftover fish tikka in tomato onion based gravy to make fish tikka masala and enjoy with rice and roti.
It is chicken Tikka masala, first make the gravy chopped onion, tomato puree and spices. Then simmer leftover fish tikka in the gravy.

Ingredients
• 200 gm boneless fish fillet
• 1/4 cup yoghurt (thick curd)
• 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
• 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder (paprika)
• 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
• 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
• 1/4 teaspoon corriander powder
• 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
• Small pinch of black pepper powder
• 2 teaspoon cooking oil (or mustard oil)
• 1 teaspoon lemon juice
• Salt as per taste
How to make the recipe
Preparation
1. Trimmed the fish fillet and wash.
2. Pat dry the fillet completely using a
kitchen towel or paper.
3. Now cut it into cube size pieces about
1 1/2 inch long.
4. Mix them with 1/2 teaspoon red chilli
powder, 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/2
ginger garlic paste and a small pinch
of salt. Leave it for 10 minutes.
Making the Marination
1. Take yoghurt in a mixing bowl and
mix with remaining red chilli powder
ginger garlic paste, cumin powder,
coriander powder, turmeric powder,
garam masala, black pepper powder,
lemon juice and salt. Pour the remaining
oil as well.
2. Whisk everything well to make a fine
paste or masala.
3. Now mix the fish cubes with this paste
and coat them evenly from all sides..
4. Keep them marinated for 3 - 4 hours.
Baking the fish Tikka
1. If using wooden sticks then soak them
in water for 30 minutes.
2. Preheat the oven and place a silver foil
on a baking tray.
3. Thread the marinated fish pieces one by
one in the shewer after discarding
excess marination.
4. If using vegetables like onion, pepper
then thread them alternatively with
the fish.
5. Brush some butter or oil over the fish
and bake for 10 minutes at 240° C.
6. Remove them and flip to another side
brush oil and bake again for another
5 minutes or till crisp golden.
7. Remove and serve hot.
Fish Tikka on tawa
a iron skillet tawa with one teaspoon
oil in high flame for 1 minute.
2. Now slow the gas flame to low and
place the marinated fish pieces one by
one on the tawa after removing excess
marination from them.
3. Roast to them for 3 minutes and then
flip them to another side and cook
further 3 - 4 minutes.
4. The fish pieces are start to become crisp
golden. When done remove and serve.

Preparation
1. Wash and clean the fish fillet and Pat them dry completely. Then trimmed and cut into cube size pieces.

2. In a mixing bowl mix the fish cubes with half of the red chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice and salt.
3. Apply 1/2 teaspoon oil and mix nicely. Let them marinate for about 10 minutes.
4. In another mixing bowl take yoghurt and mix with remaining ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, lemon juice, cumin powder,coriander powder, Garam masala, black pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
5. Add the remaining oil and whisk everything to make a thick batter like masala.
6. This masala is also known as tandoori masala used to cook tandoori dishes.
7. Now mix the fish cubes with this tandoori masala and keep refrigerated for 3 to 4 hours or overnight.
MakIng the fish Tikka
1. Preheat the oven and place a silver foil in a baking tray.
2. If using wooden shewer then presoaked them in water for 30 minutes.
3. Now start threading the fish in shewer. If using vegetables like onion and bell pepper cubes then thread them alternatively with the fish.
4. Place the shewer over the baking tray and bake for 10 minutes.
5. Remove and flip them. Brush oil over the fishes and bake again for another 5 minutes till crisp golden.
6. Remove them from the shewer and serve hot along with mint chutney.
Fish Tikka recipe on Tawa
1. Take a thick heavy iron skillet and heat in high flame adding 2 teaspoon oil for 1 minute.
2. Discard the excess marination from the fish.
3. Slow the flame to low and place the fish pieces carefully on tawa.
4. Roast them for 2 minutes and then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
5. Cook them for 6 - 7 minutes till crisp golden by flipping at some interval.
6. When all the masala become dry remove and serve hot.
