A check in

Hello!

It’s been a little while since I last posted. To be honest with you, quite a lot has changed in my life since then and I thought a check in was probably overdue.

I last posted in May, when we were still very much in the middle of lockdown and I was considering what the new normal could look like and what we needed right now. It’s now September, where life is starting to look a little more normal but we are a long way off and so many industries are struggling to see the light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

In July, I lost my job. This wasn’t entirely unexpected considering the closure of the events industry and the fact that even now we can’t hold many events and definitely very few private ones. This is such a shame, but it is such a resilient industry and I hope it comes back even stronger than it once was.

I have had a career change and I’m now spending a year training as a primary school teacher, which I’m actually really excited about! As a result of losing my job, I have moved to Manchester to live with my boyfriend permanently. We survived lockdown, so it seems like a sensible next step. My content will therefore be a lot more Manchester central, which is okay because it’s actually a pretty cool city for food and drink and I’m really enjoying my time here so far.

Over lockdown I have had a chance to really focus on my fitness and my Fitness Instagram Account @kayls.upsidedown – this started off as an aerial diary for everything I was learning, but obviously that wasn’t really possible over lockdown, so it’s quickly becoming more of a gym fitness instagram account and I’m really enjoying sharing my journey. This touches on food, but mostly it’s workouts, motivational content and general chats. If you’d like to follow my progress to being a ‘fitfluencer’ then please do give me a follow, I’m really hoping to see a lot of progress this year and have definitely switched my focus from my main instagram account (also because my main instagram is private due to training as a primary teacher!)

I have had a chance to visit some pretty great places in Manchester since lockdown began to lift, so I will share them with you below!

Peru Perdu

Peru Perdu is a lovely Peruvian restaurant which began as a pop up in November and has now been extended to become a permanent restaurant which is great, because it’s delicious!

I had the salt cod cerviche, crispy coconut shrimp and green papaya salad. Then the cheesecake and biscuits for dessert.

The Allotment Vegan Eatery

I went for lunch at the Allotment Vegan Eatery and had some delicious but very spicy tacos. I both enjoyed, whilst being overwhelmed, by the choice you get when you go somewhere as a veggie where you can eat everything.

Six by Nico

Edd and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary at Six by Nico, which I definitely recommend for a fancy dinner out. We went on the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, which made it unbelievable value, but it’s pretty affordable normally too:

SIX COURSE TASTING MENU – £29
MATCHING WINES – £26

We have already booked to go back for the Sicily menu…

Other places…

One of my friends from high school has started a family business where you can order fudge to your house (!!!) I obviously had to try it and everything was absolutely delicious. They’re called Life is Sweet UK

FINALLY, another friend has started an ice cream cookie sandwich business in London and if I was there you bet I would be ALL OVER THIS – Hazel’s Cremerie.

That’s the update from me folks. Hope you enjoyed! Let me know if there is anything particularly you want to see from me in the comments, or I will just keep sharing my foodie life in Manchester

Kayleigh
