New Life to Ye Old King’s Head Tea Room

Angela oversees the entire Ye Old Kings Head.

It’s one of those places you visit to feel enveloped in good cheer.  A friend took me there last fall for just such an occasion.   It worked.  A great part is because straightforward traditional British fare with atmosphere to match and backed with warm hospitality.  After decades of experience, capable Manager Angela is still as enthusiastic as ever. Here she offers a huge ice cream sundae because a guest was disappointed with her suggestion for a tea.

This top ten list of places to visit in Santa Monica would be equally fine for a funeral, birthday soccer games or Darts Match.

All three dining rooms are decorated in a warm, casual, country-inn attitude.  A  stone hearth fireplace blazes during the winter month.  You feel  transported into a mid-century British movie, far from the chaotic world outside.

At the same time, it is freeway close, a couple of blocks from the beach.   You can smell the clean air, and just about see the beach from the sunny (or foggy) dining patio out front.

Established over three decades ago, Ye Olde King’s Head British Pub, Restaurant and Gift Shoppe feels enormous after numerous expansions.

The Olde King’s Head menu has received acclaim for it’s famous Fish and chips. All traditional fare is available for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. But the most fun is high tea.

High tea is served all day long in a smallish, most intimate room that feels very private.  Elegant and regal, with high ceilings and carpeting, burgundy and dark word are the prominent colors on the walls and in the banquettes and chairs.  Portraits of royalty hang on the walls.
