Barca Velha is an unquestionable symbol of the quality of the wines produced in the Douro region. Classic, intense, complex, elegant and rich, the adjectives are few to describe what is the best known Portuguese wine. Declared only in exceptional years this wine first produced in 1952 is the basis on which the reputation of Casa Ferreirinha was formed. Barca Velha is vinified in the winery of Quinta da Leda. For this harvest grapes were selected from Quinta da Leda, which predominate, and from high areas of the Upper Douro Sub-Region (Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz). After maturing for 16 months in new French oak barrels with 225 litres capacity, the final lot was established on the basis of the continuous selection of the best casks, resulting from the numerous tests and analyses carried out during this period. Barca Velha has a very deep ruby colour. Its aroma is intense and of excellent complexity, with salience for live red fruits, spices like pepper and cloves, balsamic notes in cedar, resin and tobacco box. The notes of asparagus and artichokes, sous-bois and the aromas of wood of excellent quality and in perfect harmony are also noteworthy. In the mouth it has an excellent volume, lively and well integrated acidity, intense tannins and notes of red fruits, pepper, clove and ginger. Its finish is extraordinarily long, elegant and harmonious. A mysterious wine full of emotions, Barca Velha invites the selection of a discreet and exquisite atmosphere, as well as the choice of the company with whom this revealing ritual will be shared. Tasting an Old Boat requires careful preparation according to the demands of the moment. Ideally, the bottle should be placed "on top" the day before and opened 2 to 3 hours before being served. With so many years of bottle, the wine should be carefully decanted to separate its natural sediment. Ideally it should be served at a temperature of 16ºC-18ºC. Available to order!
