Vinha da Francisca by Quinta Vale D. Maria

Quinta Vale D. Maria wines are born by the hand of Cristiano Van Zeller. Situated in the valley of the river Torto, a few kilometres from the left bank of the Douro river, this 200-year-old estate produces magnificent and unforgettable wines thanks to its sun exposure and the diversity of vineyards. Some of them have been planted recently and others are almost centenary, with several varieties mixed. Vinha do Rio and Vinha da Francisca are two plots of vineyards, from this quinta, from which two different wines are produced. Vinha do Rio, located closest to the river Torto, is the oldest vineyard on the property. Despite the predominant presence of the Tinta Barroca grape variety, this vineyard consists of a mixture of almost 30 different varieties. Vinha da Francisca is a more recent vineyard. Planted in 2004 it is composed of Sousão (50%), Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and also some less ordinary old grape varieties such as Tinta Francisca and Rufete. Over the years this wine has been awarded and has earned its place as one of the Douro's best wines. Vinha da Francisca 2012  shows notes of mineral stones, such as schist, and some dark chocolate, dipped in dark red fruits like dark cherries. It is a very elegant wine, with a great balance between acidity and fruit Available to order!
