Quinta Nova Grande Reserva

The Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz grape varieties bring the Grande Reserva wines from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo to life. The Grande Reserva wine, produced from Touriga Nacional grapes, was born in 2005, coming from a 1.5 hectare plot with a nascent-south-west exposure. The productivity of this vineyard, now 45 years old, is very low, with very small bunches and small berries. Unique, this very concentrated Touriga Nacional blend, combined with century-old vines, results in a wine with a very elegant profile, almost feminine, contrasting with an intense structure of succulent tannins of enormous precision. The schistous texture, high gravity, sapid profile and purple colour reflect well the nature of the Touriga Nacional grape variety. The grapes that it had given rise to Quinta Nova Grande Reserva Referência were harvested for the first time in 2008. The vineyard that gave rise to it is located at an altitude of 100 metres and exposed to the sun in the east. The austerity of the Tinta Roriz grape variety can be seen in the mouth, but at the same time it is seduced by a somewhat contemporary sophistication which, together with the century-old old vines, gives rise to a wine full of minerality, blue fruits, rich in spicy notes, with a very firm structure and a very narrow mouth. The high concentration, density and depth clearly express its origin.Undoubtedly these two mono varietal wines, produced by Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, are two essential milestones in its history and in the history of the wine produced in the Douro region. The productivity of this vineyard, now 45 years old, is very low, with very small bunches and small berries.
