Tawa Pulao is the street food of Mumbai, it is always prepared fresh, in front of our eyes on a large Tawa (griddle). Usually, this famous and mouthwatering Tawa Pulao is spicy and has a taste of pav bhaji in it. Actually, there is no exact way of preparing Tawa pulao, every street-food vendor prepares in his own style, with a different combination of vegetables and pav bhaji masala. It is perfect for in lunch times in office or on lazy Sunday’s, when you want to relax more and work less.

Tawa pulao can also be prepared by left-over rice, in fact, this dish is the best use of leftover rice. Tawa Pulao tastes well with some raita and papad. I loved to share this Mumbai Style – Tawa Pulao. Hope this Tawa Pulao reaches to all corners of the world.So let’s try out the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Boiled rice or (left-over rice)
  • 3 – 4  finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 cup boiled green peas.
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 medium sized boiled Cauliflower cut into florets
  • 3 boiled potatoes mashed or cubed
  • 1 boiled carrot diced
  • 2 tsp Pav Bhaji Masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium Green capsicum finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Red chili paste
  • 2 tbsp  Lemon juice
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 tbsp Amul butter

Method

First of all, keep ready chopped Onion, Boiled Potatoes, Coriander leaves, Tomatoes, Boiled Green Peas, and Garlic in one plate.

Now heat Amul butter in a non-stick pan. Add some cumin seeds, cloves and sauté till well browned. Now Add the garlic paste and saute till the aroma of the garlic fills the air. Then add tomatoes and cook till tomatoes become soft.

Now add boiled green peas, diced carrot, boiled cauliflower, mashed or cubed potatoes, finely chopped capsicum and pav bhaji masala, red chili paste, and a little water. Mix and cook well for two to three minutes.

Now is the time add the rice and mix. Add salt, coriander leaves, and lemon juice and mix well.

Cook on high heat for a couple of minutes, keep mixing till all the mixture is well blended. Serve hot with raita and papad. One can also have as it is or with your favorite green chutney and yogurt.
