‘Al Karim’ – A Review

‘Al Karim’ is one of those places that is small, not very fancy on the menu but delivers on taste. I kind of dread when the name of a restaurant has ‘Authentic’ tagged to it and had the same expectations here when the title read ‘Authentic Mughlai and Tandoori’ cuisine but I was proved wrong and the food here was true to what the title read and they are extremely good at it too. Went in here on a food tasting invite and stuck to non-vegetarian dishes which is considered best at this place.

Ambiance :

A small place with a dining area good enough to accommodate around 30 people. Decor  is simple and tables comfortable. Open kitchen allows the diners to view their food being prepared. Ventilation is an issue here with one Air-condition near the entrance but the owner updated us that one more AC is being fitted in a few days and that solves the problem.

Food :

Now for the main part – the food experience !

Appetizers –

Murgh Malai Tikka : One of the best Malai Tikka’s I have had in a while. Succulent and mouth watering ! With this being the first dish that we tasted, the expectations started hitting the higher notes.

Kalmi Siraji :  Chicken stuffed inside Chicken ! Yup – you read it right. Drumstick chicken stuffed with a kheema style chicken and a touch of fennel was so yummilicious ! The stuffing was perfect and a generous quantity at that.Perfect !

Mutton Pepper Fry : Another awesome starter !  The Red chillies, the curry leaves, the coriander, the well cooked mutton, the pepper and the spice level – it was one party in the mouth !

Main Course –

Tried a few gravies with a Roti basket to go with.

Bhuna Gosht :  A mutton based gravy. Tangy flavour and a nice texture. Good chunks of mutton with the flavour infused nicely.

Al Karim Special : A Chicken based gravy, one of their signature dishes. Wonderful texture and rich in taste with cashews added as well.Chicken morsels were well cooked and soft.Creamy layer on top was one of the highlights and presentation excellent.

Al Karim Special Mutton Biryani : If you are craving for the biryani that usually graces your home during festivals like Ramzan, look no further !  Perfect taste and true to its roots.

Coming to service, the time taken between the food ordered and  for it to be served is acceptable. The staff and the owner are courteous and are open for feedback. Simple things like changing or clearing plates were well taken care off. A great value of money place overall and an excellent one for Mughlai and Tandoori style food.

Location :  4C-224, CMR Road, Opposite Silver Line Diagnostic, Kammanahalli, Bangalore
