Chettinad cuisine @ Countryside !

Having been born and brought up in Trichy and having worked for a few years in Chennai, the Chettinad cuisine from the land of Tamilnadu is something I would relish any day. With Bangalore being my current city of residence, any restaurant with a mention of chettinad is automatically bookmarked for a visit, one such place is ‘Countryside‘ ! Located in the bustling eat street of Kalyan Nagar, this resto is located at a upper level , the ground floor of which is occupied by Dunkin Donuts !

We were here for a weekend dinner and found a few tables occupied when we reached. Really comfy couches makes the dining experience pleasant here. The Ambience is simple with striped painted walls and a lighting to compliment it.

Our meal started with the Baby Corn Pepper Onion , a truly chettinad way of having appetizer. Spicy and flavourful with the taste hitting all the right chords.

Chicken Kothu Parota, a famous Tamilnadu delicacy was next on the table. Had the right mix of ingredients and the taste as expected. Would have liked it to be more spicy which it was not but we were told that on request they would make it more spicy if needed. The raitha and the plain Curry went well with it.

Also, tried the Veg Kothu Parota, same as the chicken one with no meat being the only difference and more veggies in this. The dish could have been better with the ingredients not blending well, probably a bit more curry to it to bind the dish together. This dish came with raitha and a poondu Kuzhambu ( Garlic curry) which was served cold (replaced on request but it was too late as we were already done devouring it)

Idiyappam was next to devour. It does not come with a side and one has to order separately,  We went for a plain chettinad curry which went well with it. Perfect string hoppers served hot !

Plain Dosa was also part of our order. Regular stuff but what enhanced it was the 2 chutneys that came with it along with the sambar.

Egg Veechu Parotta – another down south delicacy ticked all the boxes. Looks and taste’s simple !

Service is good and suggestions were given on what we could order. Food came out in good time but not together with each of us in the group getting our meal separately. Very open to feedback that we gave. Pricing is mid range and not expensive. Parking is a problem in this area especially on weekends.

Would I go here again ? Probably yes, to try out their meals and biryani’s !  If you are craving for TamilNadu style food , do pay them a visit !
