Your skin’s favorite Winter foundation

If dewy, breathable finish and healthy looking complexion is something that you’re after, look no further.

For as long as I can remember, the only type of Foundation I liked was full coverage. Lately, however, I’ve been reaching for lightweight bases like Guerlain’s Meteorites Baby Glow Foundation. One of my recent favorites is also Pür Cosmetics Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation* ($39.00)

PÜR Cosmetics’ encapsulated water complex delivers Swiss Alps-sourced water to hydrate the skin for lasting radiance while providing silky, medium coverage.

Encapsulated Water Complex: Utilizes phospholipids (a major component of skin cell membranes) to deliver the purest water sourced from the Swiss Alps deep into the skin for long-lasting hydration.
Coverage: Medium, buildable coverage.
Texture / Finish: Lightweight, silky texture that creates a fresh, youthful appearance.
Ceretin Complex: Helps smooth, firm and lift the skin’s appearance for a hydrated, ageless complexion.

What I like:

-the packaging is awesome. Because the formula is so light and water-y, it might seem that you can accidentally dispense way too much product, however, the design of the dispenser is very unique: it dispenses one drop at a time
-gives light to medium coverage and leaves skin looking fresh and dewy which is definitely something my skin can use in winter
-very natural-looking, flawless, healthy finish
-buildable coverage
-blends very easily
-doesn’t accentuate dry patches, actually feels moisturizing and nourishing, without feeling greasy or oily

What I don’t like:

-won’t work with very oily skin
-only comes in 5 shades and if you have very fair skin, you won’t find a match

Pür Cosmetics Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation really reminds me of one of my favorite foundations: Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. It has a very similar consistency and also needs to shaken up a little before use. This foundation is very watery and feels extremely comfortable on skin. I tested it both with and without powder and I definitely prefer it with powder, no question about it. My skin is naturally very oily, but as I’ve mentioned countless times, it gets dry due to my tretinoin use, so it’s sort of a mix between oily-normal-dry depending on what skincare products I use (sometimes I use tretinoin every other day, sometimes I use it every day). I know that this is something I keep mentioning over and over again, but I just want to make it clear that while naturally my skin is very oily, it is a mix between dry and normal at the moment.

Shade (top) vs. direct sunlight (bottom) left to right: Light, Medium, Tan, Dark and Deep

I use the lightest shade- Light- and even though it looked like it was going to be way too dark for me, once I blended it and set it with my powder, it looked fine. All five shades: Light, Medium, Tan, Dark and Deep also seem to be neutral-toned which is definitely unique and it’s something that I actually liked. With a lot of brands the lightest shades tend to have pinky undertones, which makes it difficult for me to find a match, but in this case, Light worked nicely (even though it looked a bit dark at first).

If you’re looking for a lightweight, moisturizing foundation that will give you light to medium coverage- you will love this foundation. If you’re on the oily side and prefer heavier, full-coverage base, I’d stay away from this one.
