THE COWORKING CULTURE

Back in 2005, Brad Neuberg, invented a new form of work Culture and named it “coworking”. This was mainly due to his discontent with his then current job and partly because he missed his carefree days where he worked for himself rather than working in a confined space with restrictions. Though the first Coworking space was in San Francisco, it didn’t take much time for the concept to reach other parts of the world.

WHAT IS COWORKING

Coworking is very similar to studying in the college ground during exams. The reason being that most of the people who are there are because either they don’t like to study alone at thier homes or library’s stillness is not the ideal study place for them. Therefore, they choose a place where though there are alot of people around, but he is his own tutor. This is quite similar to what coworking lets you do.

WHAT LED TO COWORKING BECOME SO POPULAR

Coworking became popular due to a lot of reasons. The main reason the idea of coworking flourished is very similar to the reason that coworking started in the first place. Just like Brad Neuberg, many people prefer working for themselves, but at the same time they either can not afford a place for their own, or do not like working at their homes.

All these three problems were resolved with the brilliant idea that Brad came up with – coworking. This type of environment is very attractive to work-at-home professionals, freelancers, small and independent contractors and people who travel often and thus do not suit the mainstream 9-5 life. This pattern is also a blessing for people who do not like to stay alone at home and work in isolation.

Coworking also work wonders for people who are in need of a working space but in small budget. Such spaces are generally available at go-to prices in the form of membership fee. Some such spaces are also available free of cost.

It is best suited for people who had to earlier sit in coffee shops for hours to avoid working in isolation.

COWORKING IN INDIA

The eastern countries gladly fetched the idea of coworking. The limited space, high numbers of willing people, sky touching cost rates for renting spaces are just a few of the many reasons people groped the concept with both hands. Countries like India, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore are increasingly diving deeper and deeper into the concept. The major metropolitan cities of these countries are twisting and reframing this concept to come up with more suitable ideas for themselves.

BENEFITS OF COWORKING

Having already discussed the reasons as to why coworking became so popular, there are a hundred more benefits that are attached to this simple word.

  1. Flexibility: most people find it very difficult to adhere to the 9-5 commitment. For such people, coworking is a lifesaver. These places have different membership options. People can choose to pay monthly, daily and even as and when they like. This saves them from the time and productivity boundation.
  2. Diversity: unlike office culture, such coworking offices do not lead to people feeling that they are a part of any competition. Rather the feeling is more of companionship than competiton. These spaces bring together of different and similar fields.
  3. Cost Efficiency: at little cost, people get access to an office environment. This setup is specially beneficial in terms of cost for freelancers and small businessmen.
  4. Productivity: a cost efficient office environment minus the rigidity and compulsion of the employer has the power to yield great results. It has been significantly noted that people who fall in the coworking culture have better productivity levels than others.

For anything to become a hit, it is very important for it to be effective. The reason “coworking culture” skyrocketed is due to its efficiency. More and more people are turning towards it now-a-days. It has changed lives and the work culture around world and is still continuing to do it.

The coworking culture is a blessing for people who do not like to stay alone at home and work in isolation.
