5 Sweet Ideas for Valentine’s Day Baking

If you’re looking for a simple way to show your sweetie how much you care this Valentine’s Day, why not bake them something from scratch? If Baking isn’t your strong suit, you’ll be glad to know that there are plenty of simple dessert ideas that you can adapt to your skill level. Here are 5 sweet ideas to try if you’re interested in doing some V-day baking.

1. Chocolate Covered Pretzel Hearts

Pretzels already come in a heart-like shape, so if you’re looking for a simple dessert idea that requires no baking and minimal preparation, this is it! Take some sourdough pretzels or pretzel chips and lay them out flat on a Baking Sheet. Spread peanut butter over the pretzels or use almond butter if you prefer. Melt down some red or pink candy melts and dip about three-quarters of each pretzel in the candy then place it back on the baking sheet. Sprinkle with Valentine’s Day sprinkles and let them set!

2. Red Velvet Brownies

If you know your way around the oven but your baking skills are still fairly minimal, these red velvet brownies are quick and easy to prepare. Start with a box of brownie mix and prepare the batter according to the instructions on the packet. Spread the brownie batter in a 9×13-inch baking dish then prepare a box of red velvet cake mix according to the directions. Spoon the cake batter over the brownie batter, swirling it with a knife, then bake for 22 to 28 minutes at 350°F until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the brownies cool then cut and serve!

3. Valentine’s Day Chex Mix

This Valentine’s Day Chex mix is just as sweet as your loved one, so toss it together and enjoy! Start with 4 cups of rice Chex cereal and an 8-ounce bag of strawberry candy melts. All you have to do is place the Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and pour melted strawberry candy melts over it. Stir until well coated and toss in some red and pink M&Ms. Let it cool and enjoy!

4. Homemade Chocolate Mints

Everyone loves chocolate-covered mints and you can make them even more romantic by making them yourself! Start by combining ¼ cup each of butter and honey in a mixing bowl with 3 cups of powdered sugar and 1 to 2 teaspoons peppermint extract. Stir well and add pink food coloring, if desired, then roll into small balls, using about 2 teaspoons per ball. Flatten the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes. Finish by melting 2 cups of dipping chocolate (or colored candy melts) and dip each patty in it then place on the baking sheet. Freeze until solid then enjoy.

5. Cake Mix Cookies

These Strawberry Cake Mix cookies are full of Valentine’s flair and easy to prepare. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment. Next, whisk together a box of strawberry cake mix and 2 eggs. Add 1/3 cup melted butter and stir well then fold in 1 ½ cups of white chocolate chips or chocolate candies. Scoop the dough onto the baking sheet using about 1 ½ tablespoons per cookie and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until done. Cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
